Considered a modern marvel of the world, Hoover Dam is a concrete arch-gravity dam located in the Black Canyon of the Colorado River and is the most-visited dam in the world. The dam created Lake Mead, the largest reservoir in the United States (in terms of capacity), which supplies water to farms, businesses and millions of people in Nevada, Arizona, California and Mexico. Nearby Boulder City, located just 6 miles from the dam site, was built and designed by the government to house and feed the dam workers.

The sheer scope of the views that make up the dam, Lake Mead and surrounds. A human marvel on the scale of the Apollo moon landing.
A big shout out also to Darren, our remarkably knowledgeable Las Vegas D-Tours guide. He made the landscape come alive with modern and geological history.

Darrin picked us up right on time. We visited the Pat Tillman/Mike O’Callahan bridge, which is amazing in terms of both architecture and beauty. Walked to the marker and had one foot in Nevada, the other in Arizona. Visited Boulder City, the dam and had a stop at a lovely gift shop, as well as stops at scenic overlooks.Darrin was an encyclopedia of information… he obviously enjoys his job. We were not rushed at any time during the tour. Would definitely recommend!

Darren was amazing! A relaxing and knowledgeable guide. The tour and stops exceeded our expectations, and he was extremely knowledgeable pointing out things we wouldn’t have known to see, and explaining the history and engineering of the dam and surrounding areas.

Our guide picked us up on time, and he was a safe and good driver. He knew much about the area, which made the drive interesting (and it was fun to get out of Las Vegas for a bit). He offered us water and a lot of facts about the dam. When we arrived at Hoover Dam, he explained to us what we saw, gave us time to explore, brought us to a family-owned gift shop, and drove us back to Las Vegas. He was great!

Darrin was awesome. My girlfriend and I were able to spend about 3 hours with him as we traveled from Vegas to the Hoover Dam, Lake Mead, and Boulder City and it was incredible experience.
UNLV should hire Darrin to teach a course. He is that knowledgeable.

The detailed knowledge our guide shared with us about the history of Boulder City, the Hoover Dam Construction, the added protection added after Pearl Harbor, Lake Mead, etc was fascinating. We enjoyed the driving tour of Boulder City, the chance to walk across the bridge for a great view of the dam, etc Darren was prompt and resourceful (lots of traffic on the return). All in all a fantastic visit to Hoover Dam!

I wanted a personal tour of the site with someone who had been there and knew his way around. Darren took us all over the dam site and pointed out specific things of interest. I am an engineer who spent my life working on dams. I know Darren knows what he is talking about. I would go with him or recommend him to a colleague.
