Just finishing up my Alaska cruise and this was definitely the best, most authentic tour I experienced.
While other ports could be scenic, Sitka was, by far, the most authentic.
Other tours offered great views (Juneau and Skagway) but they’re also “tourist ports” offering cookie cutter tours and tourist traps…Sitka was just Sitka and Laura and Nick were amazing.
Laura is very friendly, knowledgeable and just the type of person you immediately feel comfortable with.
She offered to tailor my tour to my own personal needs and interests, which is great but I just let her pick because she knows the land and what to expect.
The hike we did was invigorating with scenic stops throughout. At times it was challenging - because thats the way I wanted it, but I was never overwhelmed.
Sitka is largely unspoiled, since it is new to cruising and I hope it stays that way.
The community has no better ambassador than Laura. The hike made me want to come back to Sitka and experience more of what it has to offer (would really like to just spend a week there).
Compared to other tours, this was a bit more pricey (I was on my own) but absolutely worth every penny. The next day I did hear some passengers complain about their tours (cookie cutter tourist trap type) and my only thought was “they should have booked with Alpenglow.” - you get what you pay for.

Laura was an amazing guide! We got to hike the Mt. Edgecumbe volcano in all of its glory. A beautiful day in Alaska, with whales in the water and sandhill cranes flying over the island. We had an amazing trip. The guide was friendly and tailored the trip to meet our skill level. Would recommend to anybody.

Our guide Laura was superb. Extremely knowledgeable, friendly, interested in us. She was engaging and it was quite evident that she loves what she does. We were fascinated to learn of the indigenous plants and berries and we so enjoyed the challenging and beautiful hiking experience. It was a truly a magical day!

This was quite possibly the most beautiful hike I’ve ever been on. Our guide, Laura, was great and provided us with lots of knowledge of the area (and some local beers at the end of our voyage too!). We did one of the half-day hikes, and it was the perfect way to spend the time we had in town, although if I was ever back I wouldn’t hesitate to book one of the full-day hikes as well. Overall, I cannot recommend this experience enough. Our guided hike with Laura was the highlight of our trip!

Alpenglow was such a great company to hike through. Laura, the guide, was personable, fun, kind, and accommodated all skill levels. I felt comfortable the entire time while hiking (even in bear country which says a lot). Honestly, the best way to see Sitka is by hiking in my opinion and I would go through Alpenglow 1000 times again! Catch a sunny day in sitka and get into the mountains with laura!
