1. Royal Palace of Madrid
The largest royal palace in Western Europe is a must-visit for all.Home to the Kings of Spain from Charles III to Alfonso XIII, Madrid's Royal Palace takes us on a journey through the history of Spain. Though it is no longer the royal family's home, it continues to be their official residence.
2. Museo de la Catedral de la Almudena
This imposing church and the Royal Palace nearby form one of Madrid’s most popular tourist attractions.Madrid's cathedral, which stands in Hapsburg Madrid, has a short but tortuous history. The first plans for the church were drawn up in 1879 by Francisco de Cubas, who wanted to create a pantheon for the late Queen Maria de la Mercedes. The foundation stone was laid in 1883, but when Pope Leo XIII granted a bull in 1885 for the creation of the Madrid-Alcalá bishopric, the plans for the church were changed to become plans for a cathedral.
3. Prado National Museum
The Prado Museum, which is commemorating its 200th anniversary this year, is the crown jewel of one of the city’s most popular tourist itineraries: the Paseo del Arte, where you'll also find the Thyssen-Bornemisza and Reina Sofía museums. The Prado's walls are lined with masterpieces from the Spanish, Italian and Flemish schools, including Velázquez’ Las Meninas and Goya’s Third of May, 1808. Its collection comprises 8,600 paintings and over 700 sculptures, so we recommend deciding what you want to see before stepping into the museum. If you are short on time, the Prado's website suggests three itineraries, lasting 1, 2 and 3 hours and covering the museum's most important masterpieces.
4. Templo de Debod

The temple was donated to Spain by the Egyptian government to save it from floods following the construction of the great Aswan Dam.
5. Plaza Mayor
This arcaded square located in the historical centre of the city is the heart of Hapsburg Madrid.
6. Parque del Retiro
El Retiro Park is the real star of this neighbourhood, bordered by Calle de Alcalá and Calle O’Donnell to the north, Doctor Esquerdo to the east, Avenida del Mediterráneo and Paseo de Reina Cristina to the south, and Calle de Alfonso XII to the west. The park was developed under the Catholic Monarchs, in the early sixteenth century, but the neighbourhood itself is much younger. With an increasingly larger population in the late nineteenth century, the city expanded. The layout of Retiro is similar to that of neighbouring Barrio de Salamanca, featuring perpendicular streets with wide pavements, some of them embellished as attractive boulevards, like Ibiza or Alcalde Sainz de Baranda. It’s basically a residential area but, being so close to the centre of Madrid, it’s borrowed some of its business and shopping character. Visitors coming to Madrid can’t miss El Retiro Park and its surroundings, filled with cultural attractions, restaurants and shops. Recommended! A super nice guide Cris took us to great places by bike. We were surprised with its fascinating information and stories, great places, space for a photo and a break, and as icing on the cake we went to a terrace. We did the bike tour from 10 am to 1 pm with two children aged 9 and 12. They also really enjoyed it!

We used Trixi Bike twice during our stay in Madrid. A three hour guided tour with all the main sights and additional places on request. Our guide spoke good English and gave us a lot of relevant informations about the places we visited and found his way around the busy town in a safe and comfortably way.

We also rented their new excellent e-bikes for a hole day- driving around on our own. We got good ideas about where to go and what to see from the company. They had good solid locks for the bikes and straps for the bag - at no extra charge.

Cris showed us the highlights of Madrid in a fantastic way. What a cool city! Recommended to do if you really want to get a good impression of the city. We enjoyed a nice drink on a terrace with the group. Really amazing!

My daughter and I were on a bike tour in Madrid with our guide Elke. She is from the Netherlands, and so very experienced in biking through cities. She gave clear instructions and we felt very save with her. She knew a lot about the different parts of the city center and the beautifull buildings. One of the highlights was the view from the hill of the Temple of Debod. If you visit Madrid, don't hesitate booking this tour.

Our tour guide was very friendly and had a lot of information to share with us on our stops. The bikes that we used were all in great shape and seemed relatively new. However, as our guide had mentioned before the tour, the street infrastructure of Madrid is not set up to be biker-friendly, so much of the ride is on streets shared with cars that aren’t always fond of bikers. Make sure you’re in good enough shape to be biking for 3 hours and bring your own water!
