Start your day as you hike across the 2 mile Arenal Hanging Bridges and see the jungle from high above the forest. Your naturalist guide will teach you about Costa Rican culture, history, while you experience what we like to call "nature therapy." Immerse yourself in nature while you try to spot different species of plants, animals, and birds for approx. 2.5 hrs along the way. Appreciate 15 different bridges, 6 are hanging.
After, head to the Arenal Volcano Reserve. Hike through amazing forest and breath-taking lava flow. We’ll head through easy trails that skirt the base of the Arenal Volcano. You'll love our fresh, amazing meal in one of La Fortuna's secret hangout at El Salto waterfall park.
Finish the day at the stunning La Fortuna Waterfall. This is sure to be a good workout as there are 500 steps to get to the down and get back up! Have an opportunity to take lots of pictures and swim in the cool waters of one of the largest and most breathtaking waterfalls in Arenal!

Really enjoyed our day with Desafio and our tour guide Crystal. She was incredibly knowledgeable and enjoyable to talk with. Pointed out lots of beautiful birds and wildlife throughout the tour. Pick up was right on time, which is always appreciated. Would definitely recommend

This was an amazing tour with our guide Marco. We saw monkeys, snakes, etc on the hanging bridges part. The view of the volcano on the hike can’t be beat and the waterfall was spectacular. Lunch was provided; the fresh fruit after the bridges was delicious. Marco was super knowledgeable and truly wanted to make sure everyone enjoyed the experience.

Luckily we only had our tour guide Santo to ourselves on the day and we did quite a lot. He first took us to Arenal's hanging bridges where he carried a scope which proved very handy in order to see some tiny, camouflaged viper snakes we saw on that day, he was informative, then took us for a walk around Arenal's volcano, we had a snack break in between with fruits and water, then lunch at Desafio's main offices/restaurant and then we ended the day with a dip at La Fortuna waterfall. It was a lovely day and we definitely can't recommend this friendly company enough. That night, we didn't realise until we were picked up and back at the main offices/restaurant, that we also booked a cooking class with the same company. It was a delight, the meal we prepared was delicious and once again, our cook explained everything really well, she was fun and very kind.

We did the combo tour which was well organised. Tour guide had good knowledge of the area. Hanging bridges was the best and most interesting part of the tour. Volcano walk was a bit disappointing as you don’t actually get close to the volcano. Similarly the waterfall was a brief trip and very busy.

We enjoyed each part of this tour and had a fantastic guide (Samantha). They served a great lunch along the way. A couple of things that impacted my review:

-The description in the booking isn’t accurate. We only spent 1 hour at the volcano and 1 hour at the waterfall. We spent way more time at the hanging bridges. The volcano hike is described as “mostly flat” which isn’t true. I was glad for the extra activity but we had people in our group that struggled with the strenuous activity and that impacted the tour for everyone.

Beautiful scenery, great guide, cool history, and learned so much about Costa Rica. As with any tour, the people you are with makes all the difference.

This experience was an absolute highlight! Our guide Kristel was super enthusiastic and shared her knowledge about the nature and history of La Fortuna in such an engaging way that what was essentially a full day of hiking felt like a breeze. The places we visited were absolutely beautiful, and we were lucky to spot lots of interesting plants and animals along the way - Kristel is incredible at spotting animals! I would recommend this experience to anyone who enjoys walking to experience new places.

We did the La Fortuna waterfall, hanging bridge and volcano tour. Our tour guide was Kristel Leon. This was the best tour we have EVER been on. Kristel was passionate, knowledgeable and energetic. Kristel answered all questions and went above and beyond in spotting all critters. We saw sloths, toucans, spiders, vipers, a monkey and wild pig (cannot remember the name). She was knowledgeable about the history of the area and Costa Rica. She is a great teacher and her pride and respect for her home really shines through. Go on a tour and ask for Kristel! The driver was also amazing and helped to make the trip enjoyable with cold water and fruit snacks and a willingness to make many unscheduled stops to see animals. This is a winning team from a customer point of view. (Shame on me for not remembering his name). The lunch provided was authentic and delicious.

This all-day excursion was exhausting, but well worth it. We hiked through the hanging bridge park, up the lava path around Arenal volcano (be advised it's a bit of a tough hike), and up and down the 500 steps at the La Fortuna waterfall. Our guide, Santos, was exceptional-- so knowledgeable about Costa Rica, as well as the wildlife, plants and trees he pointed out all along the way. The views from the hanging bridge parks were amazing. Hiking the steps down to the waterfall was tiring, but wading into the waterfall pool at the bottom was super refreshing! And we had the rare privilege of seeing Arenal Volcano when it was completely clear of could cover, which almost never happens. The view was incredible. It was a great cardio workout while seeing the best sites in the area.
