Our guide was knowledgeable and witty but the experience was falsely advertised and poorly executed, and way over priced for what we got. This isn’t a bike ride down the Haleakala volcano. This is a car ride to the volcano and then a car ride back down. You don’t actually get on the bike until you’re fully out of the national park, around 8am, and then you ride through a small primarily closed town and neighborhoods. Tons of unnecessary downtime. We were up at 2:00AM but barely made it to the volcano top in time for sunrise at 6:30am. So much time wasted with small talk on the bus when we could have made it the top earlier and gotten a better spot.

The best part was watching the sunrise on Haleakala crater with a view of the full-moon behind us. The worst part was the bike ride down. Thanks to Maui County Council, the bike ride is limited to 6.5 miles. After sunrise, the Bus takes you from mm23 to mm9.5 where you get on your bike and ride to mm3 where you drop the bike off, get back on the bus, ride thru town, then get back on the bike and ride for about 2 miles to the bike shop. The second worst part was Bike Maui's communication skills. They suck!! The tour guide was supposed to give you a map to guide you to the bike shop. He told you about how to navigate down the mountain, but never provided you with a map as a reference especially in case you got lost. My family didnt know where they were going. It was during this time that my daughter fell off her bike while trying to navigate a speed bump. The bike landed on her and she hit the ground so hard, the front of her helmet busted. When I got to her, she was crying and in shock. I tried calling Bike Maui several times and each time, I got the answering machine. So I rode the bike as fast as I could to get help. About a mile later, I hit a pot hole a fell off my bike, bruising my wrists and elbows. Again I called and again got the answering machine. When I got to the Shop, I dropped off my bike and gear in the rear garage and went around to the front. When I went in there was nobody there! I walked around and called out hello, and got no response. It was so empty and quiet that I could have walked out with a pile of tshirts. I went to the back. By then, my family arrived. They dropped their stuff off and we went to the front of the store. This time the manager was present. He claimed he was there the whole time. Yeah, in a back closet napping. I told him what happened and all I got was a bunch of apathy. When we got back to our hotel, I told the concierge what happened. She said that she also had a tough time dealing with this company because no one would answer the phone. Until Bike Maui cleans up their communication skills, I can not recommend them.

The sunrise was magical with the Hawaiian men singing as the sun came up. The Ride down Haleakala was better than anticipated. Eddie buddy was the best tour guide with great stories and jokes. I like the safety guidelines given.

What an incredible experience!! Being able to witness the pure natural beauty of the sunrise up at the top of the crater was unlike anything I’ve ever done. Although I thought I was prepared with multiple layers it was still VERY cold - but totally worth it!!

The bike ride down was also super scenic and very memorable - and much warmer! We stopped and enjoyed coffee and visited a few shops on the way down. Be sure to BRING a backpack with you. I was under the impression it would be provided, so we purchased a bag in the town on our way down to store our extra layers and water bottles.

Our tour guide Eddie was extremely “punny” and I can’t think of EddieBuddy else I would have rather done the tour with. He kept things light hearted and fun while also reiterating how to safely bike down the dangerous switchbacks.

Highly recommended adding this tour to your list of “must dos” while visiting Maui

2nd time doing this tour and I will say the first was better, but this one is still great and our guide Eddie was super fun, funny, knowledgeable, and a good driver! No one can control the weather but we literally saw nothing but fog at the summit. Very disappointing, but definitely not the tour’s fault. Bike ride was still fun and clear skies when we got back down under the clouds. I wish they hadn’t shortened the route from 2 years ago where we now have to load bikes back up and and drive again before exploring the cowboy town of Makawao. Great quality bikes, instructions, and concept! I only wish it wasn’t over $200/person and that sunrises could be guaranteed!!

The bike tour has been cut down in time and no food is provided. You feel rushed to ride your bike quickly during the first half so that they can take you back in their van to drive to the second half. Would recommend getting your own bikes, don’t need to use this

Eddie, was fabulous. Great tour guide. Highly recommend the tour. Everything went smoothly with no issues. Eddie made sure we stayed on track even though we were on the self guided ride down.
