1. Thingvellir National Park
Thingvellir was accepted on the World Heritage list for its cultural values in 2004.The area is part of a fissure zone running through Iceland, being situated on the tectonic plate boundaries of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. Learn about our history from Viking era up to now. Magnificent and beautiful area. Thingvellir National Park was designated by a special law on the protection of the area. No single place epitomizes the history of Iceland and the Icelandic nation better than Þingvellir by the river Öxará. At Þingvellir - literally "Assembly Plains" - the Alþing general assembly was established around 930 until 1798. Major events in the history of Iceland have taken place at Þingvellir.
2. Geysir
The Great Geysir and the geysers area is a bubbling area with geothermal area activity from steam of vents to boiling mud pits and of course geysers. A geyser is a vent in Earth's surface that periodically ejects a column of hot water and steam.
3. Strokkur
The Great Geyser erupts occasionally these days, last in 2016. His friend Strokkur is faithful erupts regularly to our delight by shooting hot water every few minutes.
4. Gullfoss Waterfall
The waterfall is magnificent when it flows down into a wide curved three-step “staircase” and then abruptly plunges in two stages (11 m and 21 m) into a crevice 32 m (105 ft) deep. Gullfoss is in the river Hvítá (White river), which has its origin in the glacier lake Hvítávatn (Whiteriverlake) at Langjökull glacier about 40 km north of Gullfoss. Glacial water is brownish, since it carries lots of sediments that the glacial ice has carved off the earth. Gullfoss is called the "Golden Falls", since on a sunny day the water plunging down the three step staircase and then tumbling in two steps down into the 32 m deep crevice truly looks golden.
5. Kerid Crater
The crater Kerið was formed about 6,500 years ago and lies at the northern end of a row of craters known as Tjarnarhólar. It is oval, about 270 m long, 170 m wide and 55 m deep: the depth of the water at the bottom varies between 7 and 14 m. Kerið lies in the Iceland ́s Western Volcanic Zone, which runs through the Reykjanes peninsula and the glacier Langjökull. The water in Kerið does not drain out, but rises and falls according to changes in the water table. Thus, the crater is like a window on the groundwater.

We booked Puffin Travel for three day trips -- Golden Circle, South Coast and Snaefellsnes Peninsula. Villi was our incredible guide for all three of these unforgettable trips. He picked us up and dropped us off at our hotel in Reykjavik (always on time) in his Land Rover Discovery (very comfortable for the 4 of us). We hit all of the high points on each day along with several unique offshoots. Villi is extremely engaging and lovable. We can't imagine a better experience that was well worth the money. We have gone on private tours in other locations (e.g., Portugal, Amalfi Coast, etc.) and this was the best experience we have ever had. I can't recommend Puffin/Villi enough.

Villi was an amazing guide. Fabulous vehicle and he picked us up right at the house. Incredibly knowledgeable about Iceland and every stop on our tour was informative and interesting. Villi is kind, thoughtful, and flexible. He tailors the tour to your interests rather than having a rigid agenda.
Truly a magical day and we would book a tour with Villi again in a heartbeat.

The scenery in Iceland is gorgeous and any tour you go on will show that but the person taking you on the tour can make or break your day. This tour company is worth every penny! To have the flexibility of a private tour, knowledgeable tour guide and wonderful personality all in one package it truly made our day!

This was our first of three days of touring with Puffin Travel. Villi and Gulla were responsive to our enquiries, offered advice and suggestions, and were easy to communicate with. Villi provided us with a most interesing tour, taking lesser known and scenic routes to the attractions of the Golden Circle. He was punctual, informative, friendly, and definitely aiming to make the most out of our day. A wonderful first introduction to Iceland.

This was a wonderful private tour of the Golden Circle. Villi was such a great guide, proud of his country, and taking us to such interesting places. Villi always made sure we had great photo opportunities. He treated us like royalty...due to the rain... dropping us as close to a viewing area as possible, and picking us up even closer. He magically appeared in the "PUFFIN" vehicle. By the end of our day with Villi, we were fast friends and in awe of Iceland. Thanks Villi. We can't wait to come back (maybe for the Northern Lights).
