Booked this last minute since blue lagoon was closed due to volcano activity. But it was a good alternative. Still got to see the sites of golden circle. Guides were very informative. The Fontana baths were nice and relaxing and more than likely way less crowded than blue lagoon would have been. Only thing, I wish it was the last thing we did because it’s hard to keep touring after getting so relaxed. I started with one bus group, was dropped off to do the baths for a couple hours then picked up by a different group to continue the tour. The transfers and swaps were all on time and coordinated well just would’ve been nice to end with the baths.

Sadly this trip was probably the worst tour I’ve ever taken. From the morning with the driver who picked us up was miserable, not welcoming at all. We then had to switch from a minibus to a coach which is not unusual and not a problem. However next we did a small part of the tour and then had to go to Fontana spa which we expected to do on way home not at start of day, so we were the only ones disembarking the coach and no warning. Wasn’t told if we needed to get lunch at the spa or wait for next stop to the Geysirs . On way back it was even worse as we were two hours later back than expected, as grey lines had agreed to merge another tour with ours and join our coach so we had to sit for 90 min waiting, no refreshments provided or toilets available, we’d risen sensible toilet breaks and refreshments based on expected time to return. No tour company ever should force other paying customers to sit and wait for another tour group to join, my youngest nephew was forced to wait for the toilet for over 3hrs and was in agony by the time we got back to the city. He almost wet himself which would’ve been humiliating and lot of his making!!! I was disgusted by lack of compassion or thought for passengers, the other group only needed to join ours due to a broken down vehicle. Tour company could’ve sent a replacement vehicle to them and let us maintain our original schedule. We also missed our dinner reservation as we had another tours booked at 9pm, so we missed out on another experience in Iceland due to the tour operator. Fontana spa was a nice refreshing spa without hustle and bustle of somewhere like blue lagoon which is too busy and commercial. Fontana was clean, easy to use and relaxing.

Darren our Tour Guide and Helgi our driver really made our tour special. He was fun and entertaining while still taking their job seriously. They made sure everyone had a spectacular time while keeping us on schedule in a friendly and professional manner.

The trip was awful. Short stops. Little restaurant for lunch was crowded. The guide was okay but not much information.
Not good for travelers looking for a good experience.

It all starts with the bus picking you up at your bus stop (if downtown) or hotel. Then transferring you to a central bus stop, where you literally just walk through the building and out the other side where a series of busses are parked with destination placards in the window. After getting in the correct bus, a big bus, off you go. Our driver and guide were very nice and informative. Excellent English. The guide hit the right balance of information, with breaks of silence so it wasn’t nonstop chatter. The driver recommended a nice hot chocolate at the right spot, which was delicious. The double falls were incredible and probably my favorite. Also a nice unscheduled stop to see some Icelandic horses. Beautiful, with interesting background on these pure breds which can stay outside year round. Interesting.
I am not a spa person particularly, but was looking forward to the opportunity to soak in the geothermal pools. This was a nice way to end the day. A little less time at each of the other sites, which did not feel rushed, and then a good soak at the end. Nice. I also did the plunge into the lake, which was a very quick immersion. The cooking of the rye bread, which seemed a little touristy, was actually fun. I got some great video of the sands boiling and baking the bread. Our “baker” was dressed as a pirate because it was the equivalent of Halloween. A must do trip if in Iceland and a very efficient way to see some great and beautiful sites, free of the hassles of driving and parking.

Very mixed feelings about this tour. We were picked up at the Oddsson Hotel on time and dropped off at the main Gray Line terminal where we stood outdoors for about 20 minutes waiting for our bus. Was a rather brisk morning.
Started the tour with one guide -- do not remember her name (We 15Jan2020) and she was horrible! Shared little information but babbled a lot. When we arrived at Thingvellir Nat'l Park, she gave basic direction of where to walk, then disappeared with a group before most of us were off the bus. Felt like we missed the "key" things to see while there as NO representative from Gray Line was anywhere on the trails/walkways to assist. The sites were gorgeous, so very happy with that part of the stop.
Back on the bus and a good sized group of us were then dropped off at Fontana Spa for about 2 hours. We were told to be ready to depart at 1500 hours. Rushed in the door, told to each lunch there and the guide left. NOTING - the lunch buffet was only open 1200-1400H, we were dropped off about 1315H, so by the time we enjoyed the spa, the buffet was closed and only soup and snacks available. Guide NEVER mentioned there was another restaurant about 100 yards up the slope outside the spa front door. Discovered this as we went outside to await the bus. Very upset by this -- if a guide had stayed with us OR this information shared when we were dropped off it would have been very helpful and most appropriate.
Bus was late, arriving about 1515H. The new guide was very informative and personable; however at this point we had missed a half day of his commentary and he'd reference what he had mentioned early but definitely felt we missed a lot of great information about the local areas, customs, foods, etc. Disappointing as this is always a great benefit of a tour like this.
Next stop at Gulifoss to view the Golden Falls. AMAZING! Most beautiful natural environment we've ever been too. Had a decent amount of time here, but we were rushed along a bit as we were scolded that the tour was behind schedule after picking us up at the spa. This was squarely on the tour operator as all of us were ready, they were late and then had issues counting/knowing the number of tour participants they were picking up.
Our last stop at the Geyser was nice, but by the time we were off the bus, walked to the geyser it was already dusk and getting darker so harder to really see and enjoy the eruptions. Another disappointment that could have been avoided if Gray Line had planned better. They should have just taken our spa group in a smaller bus instead of splitting our day between two other tours/buses.
While the stops we made were phenomenal, we will look for other tour operators in the future as Gray Line was a disappointment.

Half day golden circle tour to Thingvellir National Park, Gulfoss waterfalls and geysers followed by 2 hours at Fontana spa. Our tour guide was full of facts and interesting information. He even added an extra stop for us to meet and feed some Icelandic ponies!
My highlight was tasting lava bread at the spa before heading for a dip in the geothermal pools! An amazing day!
