The Freedom Tour is the most authentic tour offered in San Basilio de Palenque given by certified guides that are native to the community. This tour was truly amazing! Our guide provided many different opportunities to connect with the local culture in Palenque. We danced, saw the local traditional healed, visited the music museum and saw the famous UNESCO site dedicated to the towns freedom fighter and hero. There were opportunities to purchase and support local vendors. At the end we had lunch at a local restaurant which was very tasty and came with a very tasty drink. All in all, this trip was very inspiring especially as a Black traveler. It is a must do on your itinerary! Many thanks to the community and wonderful tour guide.

This tour is a must! Black owned & operated! Ronald was the best tour guide. As a formal representative of Palenque he was knowledgeable & sincere. It was a pleasure to meet his Mom & Dad. I loved dancing with the local villagers & I was blessed by Rosalina, the 91 yr Old healer. Food was delicious. Our black is beautiful!

Would really recommend this trip to find out more about the cultural foundations of the area. Ronald was a brilliant guide and also happens to be the President/Mayor of the Palenque local council. There were a few salesy points included but it’s all going straight to the community. It felt like a privilege to be shown around the town.

The experience was very cool, something very different from what one is used to. The way the guide shows us the customs of Palenque is unique with that energy that she transmits and interacted with us through dancing and singing, a very beautiful experience.

Overall, I very good experience. Very informative tour and interactive experience with the community of Palenque. The highlight of the trip was the dance show. It was amazing and fun. Highly recommended!

I actually took this trip April 2023 but just realized I never wrote a review. My sister recommended this tour to me and I now recommend it to others. My guide, Eric, was very knowledgeable and excited to share the history with us. I enjoyed the walk around the town and the people I met, the music I got to create, the meal I got to enjoy. There is also a delicious local rum available for purchase…I recommend you buy a bottle or two.
