There are a few tours that allow you to visit sumo stables but I picked this one based on its reviews and the fact that you get to eat a chanko nabe lunch cooked by the wrestlers. I'm glad I did.
The guides were very knowledgeable about sumo and super helpful; Ryoko even asked for the chanko recipe on my behalf and sent me one after the tour was done.
The stable is called Asahiyama-beya i believe and houses a wrestler from Israel whose quite well known in the sumo world for his dedication to move across the world to become a pro sumo wrestler. Lucky for us, he also spoke several European languages so we were able to have a good Q&A after the training while eating our chanko.
And yes you can take a few picks with the wrestlers and try and push one but the last part is not so easy.

Excellent communication from Tomer and ryoka where we were meeting . We had issues with our metro journey and it was great to text Tomer and update him on our location . All was well finally . Super experience and Sumo wrestlers were very friendly for photos after

Very good organization. Very nice guide who took the time to explain us the Sumo world before arriving to the sumo stable. Once there we could watch the sumo training practice, it was not made up, it was a regular practice session. Very impressive to see. The sumo were very nice and passionate about their discipline, we had good exchanges after their practice. I recommend this tour.

This was truly an amazing experience! There are many sumo experiences to choose from, and this one is the best because you’re able to sit in a seat instead of the ground. You get to taste the food the wrestlers eat and there also an opportunity to wear a kimono for pictures. The pick up and drop off location are very convenient and the guides are helpful in directing you elsewhere afterwards if you didn’t want to return to the same point. A highlight in our trip!

This was such a great experience to have on my last day in Japan. Ryoko was a great, supportive and informative guide. We truly appreciated meeting the master of the training faculty and his students. We were welcomed to witness the practice personally and it was amazing to see the techniques up close and hear the history. We would definitely recommend booking this experience.

What an amazing experience and unique way to see sumo in action! I had seen a real sumo match in Tokyo, but this was something completely different. To be so close to the wrestlers and hear everything made this feel so different. Going to a local neighborhood to see where they train and live was also fun. My husband and son (8 years old) both loved getting their pictures with some of the wrestlers, who were all great. The guides on the tour were wonderful and very knowledgeable. They were both able to provide insight into the sport of sumo and what was going on during the practice. All around, a fantastic experience!

If you were only to do one thing in Tokyo, this tour is a must. Learned so much about Sumo from the history through to how Sumo tournaments work. Being able to watch sumo wrestlers train was something else. Our guides Ryoko and Tomer were very knowledgeable and helpful. Definitely a must do tour.

Fabulous experience for the whole family. Amazing to see the sumo training and to be part of their day. The stable master was very welcoming and the sumo wrestlers were very friendly and made the day perfect. The guides were very knowledgeable and took extra care to make sure we knew what was happening and where to go. Very well planned and executed day! 5 stars for sure.
