The tropical rainforest ecogarden really brought the unique flora and fauna of Costa Rica to life. Up close and personal we saw sloths, butterflies, toads, frogs, leaf-cutting ants, caimans, lizards, spiders all under a dense canopy of foliage. Great experience, interesting and educational.

I had the vip experience. I was the only one that had booked that day. So a bit creepy only me and the guide in the dark forrest, but after finding the first frog, it gets cool and exiting. We found several different frogs, caimans and caiman babies, birds asleep in the trees and a lot of other stuff. The guide was really kind and new a lot about the nature and was very passionate about his place.
Really enjoyed the trip.

We went on a night hike at EcoGarden Arenal based on a local friend’s suggestion. We did not choose wrong! We saw several different animals while on our walk and the trails are well marked. There are even different areas named after animals where you might see a particular species (to make finding them a bit easier while still in their natural surroundings).
We saw a fee-de-lance (with the utmost care), a baby caiman, a sloth, red-eyes tree frog, glass frog and many, many more animals!
Our guide, Carlos, from Red Lava Tours was amazing! He is incredibly knowledgeable on both Flora and Fauna and made sure we saw what we had hoped for!
100% recommend!

Nice sanctuary with the fantastic guides, they were very knowledgeable about the animals on the property and did a great job make it fun for our kids. We saw many toads, frogs, small snakes, caymans, sloths, insects, and identified interesting plants and fungi. It was exciting exploring the “forest” at night with a flash light. But this area is safe for families.

Tour guide was great and hilarious. One of the best I’ve had on my two week trip. The garden was adorable and very diverse. Highly recommend visiting this night hike for great biodiversity and the tour guide was also a great photographer.

The price was $60 which I feel was a little steep. The tour consisted of a tour walking us through the owners backyard essentially. We saw sloths, which were more active at night, glass frogs, toads, bullfrogs, birds, cayman crocodiles, and lizards. There were maybe 10-15 different animals we saw. We didn’t find the green eyed frog or any other dart frogs. This tour was tainted somewhat by the owners barking dogs through part of it. Also two separate portions of the trail had branches that had broken off during the tour blocking the way. These aspects made it seem unprofessional and slightly under maintained. Also the tour guide was relying on us for much of it to find the creatures. It was great acting to see him act impressed by our find only to see a sign 10 ft away with the animals name. Essentially it’s a zoo without cages for $60. For what we saw and the time spent, $30 would be a more reasonable price. I’m from San Diego and you can almost go to the zoo for this price.

This tour was so cool. We saw tree frogs, poison dart frogs, sloths, and even a couple caimans. Our tour guide was hilarious, not to mention smart, knowledgeable, and friendly. A really memorable experience, would recommend!
