We had booked a night walk but had to cancel at the last minute as one of us was feeling under the weather. Elias suggested we drop by the next morning if we felt up to it, even though our time was limited (we were heading on to our next location). We appreciated the gesture (he could have easily just pocketed our money), and we're so glad we took up the offer!
We arrived the next morning and were given instead a private tour of nearly 3 hours. The centre is fascinating, very well laid out and managed, and Elias is a brilliant host and guide.
La Fortuna has tons of options and attractions - we felt so pleased to have picked this one.

This place may be small but it is so well laid out and looked after with so many birds it is a dream! We had Pana as our guide and he was just brilliant! He had lots of information about everything around us from the plants to the animals! There is a lovely little butterfly house as well. They have an area where they feed some of the local birds so that makes for a really good place to spend the day watching the comings and going’s.

Had such an amazing experience at Ecocentro danaus!! Our tour guide Joe was very friendly, informative, and took his time taking us around the land. He spotted 5 sloths (one being a baby!), caiman, porcupine, different kinds of birds (we got to feed to the toucans!), tree frogs, turtles, different types of lizards, and butterflies. As an animal lover I couldn’t ask for more! Joe had a scope and took photos and videos of the sloths for us. THIS TOUR IS A MUST!!!!!

Our guide, Elias, was so knowledgeable and nice, he patiently explained about the different animals we saw. We got to see many birds, agouti, caimans, iguanas, squirrels (!) and sloths. It made me look at animals differently (for example, ents!) and the overall experience was interesting and relaxing. Would do this again and would definitely recommend!

Title says it all: cost was reasonable, guide was excellent (good knowledge and language skills), and the variety of fauna and flora species concentrated in this reasonably-sized facility kept us interested throughout the visit. Many points of interest; the butterfly enclosure was especially enjoyable.

We attended Nov 2019. We booked the private tour and it was definitely worth it. We saw lots of wildlife that there’s no way we would have seen without the guides assistance (sloths are hard to spot because they are up high and blend in well, bats and frogs hidden under leaves etc). Short trail but full of wildlife. Definitely worth a visit!

The reserve, the tour and our guide Elias were great! It was an amazing experience - we learned a lot! Thanks for that!
BTW: It's not a typical touristic business - it's a serious organisation working hard to preserve Costa Ricas flora and fauna and to educate tourists to be conscious about that as well. The guide Elias was very knowledgeable about the biodiversity in the reserve and experienced in animal spotting! Definitively highly recommended!

We were fortunate enough to be guided by Elias on our tour. He was friendly, knowledgeable and helped us get amazing photos through his scope on our phone. The kids had so much fun and learned so much! We saw more than one sloth, turtles, amazing birds, frogs, butterflies and more! We highly recommend it!

Property was naturalized over 20 years and lovingly maintained. Animals are not fenced in and free to come and go. Paz toured us when we showed up upon 7:30am opening and took his time pointing out wildlife to us. His telescope was perfect to use your iPhone to take photos. He was determined to show us a sloth and even took us out to the road to find a two toed sloth up in the tree. Thank you! 🙏 We were happy to donate to this intimate reserve.
