This tour includes your entrance Fee into Newgrange Monument and Bru Na Boinne.

We are the only tour company in Ireland that will visit both the Newgrange and Knowth Monuments on their day tour... the two most important sites in the Boyne Valley.
NOTE: Between Nov 1st – March 1st – Knowth is not accessible so the tour at Bru Na Boinne is slightly shorter.

We use small minibuses with max capacity of 16 people so you can enjoy the tour better.

WHAT TO EXPECT

1. O'Connell Street
Your tour begins in Dublin city centre, where you will meet your guide and set out through the beautiful Boyne Valley. This is one of Ireland’s most important prehistoric areas and the surrounding landscape is dotted with ancient monuments.
2. Newgrange
Newgrange is one of Ireland’s most impressive ancient monuments in Ireland and is an UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is the largest purpose built burial site and place of ancient worship in Ireland. The monument is built so that it is aligned with the winter solstice which was of great importance to the neolithic people in Ireland at the time.
3. Oldbridge Estate/Battle of the Boyne Visitors Centre
The Battle of the Boyne in 1690 was the deciding battle not just for the ruling class in Ireland but also in Britain and Europe. It explains the troubles of Northern Ireland and why it is celebrated each year on July 12th by the Loyalist community. It was a battle that would eventually lead to displacement of Irish Celts and their culture throughout the Island of Ireland. It was also a battle for the Throne of England between the catholic King James II and the Protestant King of Holland (William of Orange). You may decide to do the self Guided Tour - Pay at Entry.
4. Monasterboice Monastic Site
Mainistir Bhuithe – “ monastery of Buithe” is the 5th century monastic site founded by St Buithe. The site includes the remains of two churches built in the 14th century and a Round Tower from the 10th century, but it is most famous for its Celtic High Crosses. The round tower is about 28 metres tall, and is in very good condition. It was likely built shortly after 968 and damaged in a fire in 1098. The three high crosses date from the 10th century and form part of the scriptural group (showing biblical scenes). The 5.5-metre Muiredach's High Cross is regarded as the finest high cross in the whole of Ireland. It features Biblical Carvings from the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. It is named after an abbot, Muiredach mac Domhnaill, who died in 923.

You could've been on a day out with "The Rock" - but big Matt was even better! With his passion, humour and voluminous knowledge, Matt filled the nearly full bus with plenty of historical facts as well as lots of practical information on how to make the most of day, especially at Newgrange, where timings were important. Still, the OPW staff who ran the site were friendly and along with the great weather made for a beautiful, serene day, with Matt always on hand to look after his group.

The Neolithic sites were incredible.
The tour as a whole was great: good guide, comfortable and clean bus.
Could have used some more time at the siteof the Battle of the Boyne.

So interesting, with fantastic explanations given by both Matt, our marvellous tour guide, and the on-site tour guides, bringing it all to life for us. Matt with Hilltop Treks was an awesome guide. His knowledge and passion for his country was amazing. He wove the story of Ireland from it's Neolithic beginning to the present day. His professionalism was best shown when he refused to leave a little old woman traveling alone that didn't make it back to the bus on time.

Matt was a wonderful guide. He shared so much history and we learned so much. Going inside the passage in Newgrange was amazing but the views from the top of Knowth were incredible.
