Of course anyone can go on a bus with a bunch of other guests more and of course anyone could rent a car and drive to the Douro. The thing is it wouldn't be the same as having all the knowledge of your local expert tour guide for culture and wine, in a personal experience. Passing incredible landscapes on the way to the Douro Valley wine region, you will be entertained with amazing details about the area, the culture and of course, Port and Douro wines.
It's not just the landscape. It's what's behind the stage, the details, the facts, the people, and all this with fun, friendship and a lot of humour in between.
You can only get it while doing it.

The best day of our trip! Hugo was the best tour guide you could ever have! And the tour itself was a dream. Definitely a can’t miss!

Start to finish, this was an absolutely incredible experience. We were lucky enough to have Sara lead our group throughout the day. She is incredibly knowledgeable around the Duoro Valley and was able to answer all of our questions. In addition to this she was just generally one of the nicest people we’ve ever met.
The tour itself was stunning. Starting with a port wine tasting, a beautiful river view, and mountains of vineyards surrounding us.
We then made our way to a boat tour with the friendliest staff. Hugo was fantastic and funny and really added to the experience.
The meal and wine tasting at the end was the peak of the day. The staff was truly incredible, probably the happiest and nicest people that we’ve ever interacted with. I really can’t describe this experience and do it justice. This was an unforgettable day and I would recommend it to anyone who wants more than just a wine tour.

Our trip to the scenic Douro Valley was awesome! We were hoping to have Hugo lead our tour with all of his positive reviews, but instead had the wonderful, affable Sergio who did not disappoint! Sergio was very friendly, knowledgeable and efficient, not to mention an excellent driver on the hairpin roads we took in the valley. Sergio even let me help program the drivetime music and we shared our love of bands along the route.
The wines we sampled were all excellent and it flowed generously. The boat tour, featuring an English-speaking local guide, was beautiful, and finally, the homemade food was tasty and plentiful. Did I mention the free-flowing wine?! We highly recommend this trip.

We had the most incredible tour to the Douro Valley! With the stops just for pictures, the AMAZING food at lunch, the multiple wine tastings, and the boat tour, this experience was more than worth the money. Ricardo was the most gracious, fun, and engaging tour guide and knew all the secret spots. He was the cherry on top of our day!

Great tour of the Douro region with our excellent guide, Hugo! He is very knowledgeable of the region and the ports and wines made there. We had a great time with the small group we traveled with. The food, port and wines were excellent as were all of the locations we visited. Highly recommended!

I don’t say this lightly - but this was probably one of my favourite days/trips ever.
Sara was our guide, and she was incredible. Knowledgeable, warm, kind, helpful and generous. And a very, very good driver, in some incredibly trying road conditions.
The views were unbelievable, the wine was amazing, the group was small and friendly, and the different stops we made were so, so well considered and magical. We honestly couldn’t have had a better time. Book it, you won’t regret it.

We learned so much, toured beautiful vineyards and had the most amazing lunch :) highlight of our trip to Porto. Would recommend

There are so many day tours to the Douro Valley to choose from, it can be difficult to do so. Many, also, receive positive reviews. Vive tours deserves high praise. Our guide, Jean, was very knowledgeable, fun. and easy to be with. He was the perfect mix of being hands on/attentive and leaving us to wander at times. We stopped for coffee, "breakfast" en route which was perfect for me since we had an early start. 2 different wine tastings; both fabulous. One before lunch and the other with, post the boat tour. Trust me, they were very generous with the amount of wine we consumed! The lunch was delicious cooked on an open fire at a couple's home. It was in their backyard and could accommodate other tour groups in separate areas. Hugo, the owner of Viva Tours, was incredibly responsive to my questions, emails prior to our tour. Enjoy!

Fantastic small group guided tour! Hugo was fantastic all the way through and so knowledgeable and personable about Porto, Douro, winemaking, history etc etc! 7 of us in the group and met up near the big Porto Sign on Av. dos Aliados at the town hall (it does appear on Google maps).
Drive out of Porto and stop at Bakery and facilities before heading to first stop at Fonseca to sample some Port, then a short river cruise, followed by lunch and more port and wine tasting at a family run business for what was an fantastic experience.
It really made our trip and was the best guided trip we have done and so glad we booked this !

We really like the whole experience. Our favourite part was the generous and delicious lunch, people were lovely. I highly recommend that day trip :)
