The thing is it wouldn't be the same as having all the knowledge of your local expert tour guide for culture and wine, in a personal experience. Passing incredible landscapes on the way to the Douro Valley wine region, you will be entertained with amazing details about the area, the culture and of course, Port and Douro wines.

The Douro valley day tour with Viva tours was excellent and good value. We were a group of four friends (Ireland and USA) so we had a van and guide/driver Hugo Dias all to ourselves. Hugo was fantastic. Always helpful and solicitous of our comfort, safety and enjoyment, and demonstrating broad and in depth knowledge of everything we experienced, saw, tasted and ate throughout the day. We highly recommend viva tours and Hugo for your Douro River experience.

My boyfriend and I booked this tour after seeing the viral Tiktok. We had the amazing pleasure of being guided by Hugo and Verena. Hugo is an amazing guide with immense amounts of knowledge. We learnt so much not only about wine and the wineries in the area but also many interesting facts about the Douro Valley. We obviously got amazing food and wine and we did a boat ride on the Douro River near Pinhao allowing us to experience the amazing views of the Douro Valley.
I 100% recommend this tour to everyone. This is a truly small group tour with a local guide. Hugo and Verena made us feel like family. If you're looking for a small group tour that's personal and well structured definitely choose this one!

This was bar far the best tour I have ever been on! Our first stop was at the most picturesque winery I’ve ever seen. We learned about the process of making wine while touring which was awesome. Our tour guide Hugo was an exceptional guide. He had so much knowledge of the area and wine making as well as being so much fun! We had a small group and I truly felt like I was just hanging out with friends for the day! After our tasting of different port wines, we had a scenic boat ride down the river. Loved that part! We then ended our day at an amazing private winery for lunch. The food and owners of the property were so welcoming and of course, we had more wine! Don’t hesitate to book this tour, I’m already planning my next trip back!

This was undoubtedly the highlight of our trip to Porto and quite possibly, the best tour I’ve ever been on. Booking was seamless and communication was clear. They were fast to respond to my questions and sent a reminder message the night before with instructions on where to meet and what to expect. Hugo was an incredible tour guide and so knowledgeable about the region, wine, and culture. He was also very personable and has a great sense of humor, which made the whole day feel like we were being shown around by a close friend. This really made the whole experience that much better!
The first winery provided the quintessential winery experience, with breathtaking views and tastings of three different types of port on their cobblestone patio - just perfect! Hugo provided a great lesson on how the wine is made and the history of wine making in the Douro Valley. We then went on a 30 minute boat tour to get a more close up view of the river and taste some homemade port. I didn’t think the day could get any better, and then we arrived at our last stop - a traditional Portuguese kitchen with a port wine cellar and cottage. After a brief tour of the grounds, we sat down and ate as a group. The food here changed my life. I’m not kidding. Everything was so fresh and unique - and of course paired with more wine. We ended the dinner with a final tasting of a vintage port which was unbelievable. Overall - this was an excellent experience and I would recommend it to anyone traveling to Porto. Skip the big tour bus companies and get a more authentic Douro Valley experience with Hugo! 10/10.

This tour was one of the many highlights of our trip to Porto! Hugo covered the history of the Douro Valley and took us to two beautiful properties for wine tasting and lunch, as well as on a coffee stop and river boat ride.
The main two reasons I booked this tour over other small tours were due to the positive reviews of Hugo and the food served at lunch, and both lived up to my expectations. The experience at the lunch stop was our favorite part of the tour - the food, wine, ambiance, and staff were amazing! We had a great variety of wine and enjoyed the river tour as it was very relaxing and a good break from drinking.
Thank you so much, Hugo, for being a great guide & for showing us the beauty of the Douro Valley! I would highly recommend booking this tour if you have the opportunity to do so.

My whole group agreed that this was one of the best tours we have ever taken. Truly was an unbelievable experience. Hugo brings you to places hidden to the public and gives you a true taste of an authentic Douro Valley experience. We have talked about this tour every day since and cannot wait to recommend it to everyone! It is flawlessly done. Truly not a better way to spend a day!!

It was a gorgeous day with Hugo, we visited 2 beautiful wineries, had delicious lunch with lot of wine. Trip was very good organized and Hugo is very knowledgeable. Thank you very much for a beautiful day. I would recommend this trip to anyone who is in Port area.

We loved this tour for several reasons. Hugo was a terrific guide. He was so personable and made everyone feel at ease and he had extensive knowledge of the region, the wines, and the wine making process. The wineries we visited were chosen to avoid the large tour crowds and they were lovely. We had a home cooked traditional lunch at one of the wineries, and everyone there was so welcoming and the food was delicious. It was one of our most memorable days of the trip!

We spent a delightful three days in the Douro Valley with Hugo and Verena for the first two days and following their itinerary for day three. The Douro Valley is always stunning and Hugo and Verena added so much knowledge—from wine and port making to history of the villages to the flora that we passed on our walks. We had fantastic meals in beautiful settings, visits to smaller and larger Quintas, and a very special evening meal. I knew our time with Hugo and Verena would be the highlight of our 2 1/2 weeks in Portugal— and it definitely was. Highly recommend Viva Douro for any of your Porto or Douro interests.
