The overall experience was good.
It is worth it if you prefer to reduce a bit of the walk to the Crater as the tour guide takes you to the check-in entrance. We had this as our go city pass and hence we took this on.
The guide does give you details with a map of what’s the best strategy to hike up. Be ready at the top as it’s strenuous (even the easy slope up)
FYI. Do the 6am trip if you want to get to see the sunrise. People were already there before we got to the top.
Overall the experience was good. If you looking to save on a few bucks, then you wouldn’t lose much if you took a cab to the entrance of the Crater.

Nice, short hike up and down the crater got our post marathon and 10k legs up and about for the days to follow. The weather was cool and the place wasn’t as crowded (which is how we always like it) as expected. It did leave more than a few fellow hikers winded as they neared the top, though some others were already huffing and puffing with more than halfway to go. Fantastic views of the ocean and mountains. I can see why some other tourists (not us!) got up earlier to catch the sunrise from the top of the crater. More than enough time was given by our shuttle driver/guide, Roger, before he picked us up two hours after dropping us off. Best to go in the morning as it appears to be the time with the least number of people.

The Diamond Head Crater is a must see if you are visiting Waikiki! Pickup was on time and friendly. The hike was moderate in difficulty but the views were amazing!
