Miko gave a full and frank account of life in Japan for young people. We were fascinated to see the back streets « ruled » by the Yakaza.

Seeing a new side of Osaka, Adam was great and the dinner was delicious. I’ll be honest, I thought I had signed up for the food tour (many others in the group thought they had too, so I wonder if it can be made more clearer in the description). But no complaints about the tour itself. We had a good time!

The backstreet store in Osaka exceeded expectations! Our tour guide, Adam, was fantastic—funny, intelligent, and respectful. Highly recommend this experience. Adam took us to places that tourists never see and made our exploration truly authentic. His local insights added a rich layer to the journey and really opened our eyes to Japan. A must-do for those seeking a genuine and off-the-beaten-path adventure in Osaka!

The backstreet Osaka tour was a very informative and fun way to get a feel for the city. Our tour guide, Tommy, was knowledgeable and personable. He gave us some interesting insights into the city and made sure to accommodate everyone in the tour group. Even the little icebreaker that he had us do to get to know other members of the tour was fun and a good conversation starter. He also went the extra mile and made sure everyone left safely once the tour was over. I would definitely take a tour of this kind again. You get a chance to see sides of the city (during the calm of the evening) that you may not normally notice as a casual tourist.

Really nice to have someone show you around places that most Japanese locals wouldn't... I mean that in a very good way.

Sometimes, and in particular in more closed societies, where appearances have immense worth, it's quite difficult to look beyond the veil, and see what's behind the initial layers, but what lies there, is also a complementing, and integral, part of what you see, and experience, upfront.

As to avoid misconceptions, I'm not too sure this might be the best initial tour, for people that have not a priori, seen a bit of the amazing country that is Japan, experienced its rich and unique culture, and met the courteous, organized, and smiling japanese people... But even if that were the case, after taking this tour, you could rest assured you've seen what most Japanese people might consider the "ugly", and some of the "bad"... All that comes thereafter, is pretty much all "good" (but don't worry, just because they feel that way, there's nothing wrong, and nothing saying you won't feel close to the opposite concerning some parts of this tour).

Me personally, I loved the time I spent walking around with Andrew. After we met, and quickly exchanged some words to get to know each other a bit (and so I could be more at ease, I'm sure), he made sure we went for a (very premeditated) walk, where he always made sure I understood what I was seeing, and why he felt it was something worth showing.

We had some bites and drinks (of course, in a place where I could only hear Japanese), went for a very interesting walk "deeper" into the "backstreets", and ended up in a Izakaya where I tried some great food I've never had before (no, no English menu either).

Andrew took care of everything, and it was always a great pleasure to talk to him. With a bright and charismatic personality, he always made me want to listen to what he had to say, and feel like talking some more myself. Staying long minutes around him, and not smiling, felt like it would be quite difficult.

I'll be looking forward to the next time I'm in town, so I can have another friendly walk around the streets, see, and learn a bit more, of what makes this city so unique.

Thanks again Andy! For showing me around, for the patience of dealing with all my senseless talkative mode, and for providing an amazing tour all around.

All the best, and I'll see you soon! :).

This tour was way more than we expected. Dom was extremely knowledgeable and gave us insights into Osaka’s past.
We thought we were just going to walk through the ghetto and red light areas. But it was much more than that. We have been to many temples and shrines but Dom broke it down to the how and why’s during these modern days and how the Osakans deal with their beliefs. Super interesting.
The date of our tour was December 18. If you’re joining this tour (highly suggest you do) during this time, dress warm. The cold was a bit rough, especially for these Hawaiians!!!

This tour was so fun and informative. We went on a day when pretty much the entire group was Australian (my group was Aussie too), our guide Sasha was excellent and spoke with real knowledge about the “out of sight out of mind” Japan, and we got to explore parts of Osaka we wouldn’t have even known about.
