Dachau is one of the most well preserved camps in all of Europe and a visit to a camp should be on every travelers itinerary. Dachau was the first camp set up in NAZI Germany, was the model for all other camps and was the only camp running for the entire 12 years of the Third Reich. This authorized full tour of the Dachau Memorial is a half day tour traveling via train from Munich at 9:00 and arriving back approximately 14:00. Your guide will not only explain in detail the horrors of the camp system but the plight of the various victims that suffered under this brutal system of murder and oppression, the rise of the NAZI party and many other events that took place throughout the 3rd Reich and World War 2. As we are a small independent company we go above and beyond to give our guests a memorable experience. Our small group tours have a maximum number of 18 guests per tour ensuring a personable experience.

Able to witness this dark history in real life is unbelievable! The only complaint I had was all the standing while the guide tried to explain the history. There were some seniors within group. Just wish he can find an area for us to sit down while he talked. He was very informative but standing under the sun with back and knees problem. It wasn't good.

This tour was emotionally draining, as you might expect. Our guide, James, met us at the train station and we rode to the town of Dachau where we switched to a bus that took us to the camp. James covered a lot of info re: the causes of the war and the development of the concentration camp system. He expressed everything with knowledge and compassion. This is not a tour for young children but adults will find it meaningful and informative.

James was a wealth of knowledge and provided so much history and insight into what led up to Dachau, during and post liberation. This is something every living human being should learn about.

James was an excellent tour guide from the moment we met with him through the return train ride back to Munich. He shared a rich and vivid history of Dachau, always respectful, but direct and clear. His knowledge was deep and sharing of stories was appreciated. Without James guiding us through the site we would have missed so much! This tour is highly recommended.

Our tour guide James was awesome - very knowledgeable, personable, and engaging. He kept us on track and provided a lot details about WW2 and Dachau throughout the tour. This was a very sobering and sad tour for obvious reasons, but an important one. Would highly recommend.

Very knowledgeable tour guide (James). Was very impressed by not only wat he knew but bring able to answer any question that came at him. Thought he did a good job of being professional and respectful on site while covering the hard details. Was very clear and made sure everyone knew where to be, so travel by train was a breeze. You can read all the information but the details and insight James provided really added to the trip and I learned a lot I would not have gotten just reading every sign.

James was our tour guide and he was excellent. Our group was smaller (12-14 people) which was perfect and a LOT smaller than other tour groups. With it being a sensitive topic, he gave us a nice balance of alone time and group time. When together, he spent the time educating us and telling historical stories. I had thought about just going alone but I’m so glad (and relieved) that I signed up for this tour. It was so nice to have a personal guided tour. He also did an excellent job with getting us on the train and bus which was busy but he had us there (and in the exact right spot) to walk directly onto the train/bus and in a seat. I highly recommend!

James from the tour operator sent us an e-mail the night before reminding us that the meeting point is near the toy museum, opposite from the cheese shop. The original meeting place said the Juliet Statue, but that's only 5 feet away, so it's the same thing. But it's good that he confirmed the meeting point. ;)
Our guide, Keith was very knowledgeable and gave us a lot of information. He told us some of the sadder parts of life in the concentration camp, but it seems like he didn't get into the very worst stories, which is probably for the best.
We took a train from Marienplatz to the Dachau train station, then the tour began at the Dachau train station where he explained about the town's history as a Roman camp and how it was much older than Munich. Then we took a bus to the concentration camp site and the tour continued in the area between the concentration camp and the old SS buildings. He talked for a few minutes here before leading us in.
After that, we walked around the buildings as he explained everything.
Overall, I think it's better to go with a tour guide that can talk about the history of what happened and where.

An important note: this tour is advertised as a "half day tour" but it's more like a 3/4 day tour: we met at 9:00, took a train to Dachau train station, then took a bus to the concentration camp and museum. The guide then showed us the sites, then we took the bus back to the train station, then took the train back to Munich, and arrived at the same point where we left, in Marienplatz.
I highly recommend you bring snacks and drinks of some kind since the tour goes well past lunch time.
We stopped for restrooms and water before starting the tour and then after the tour, and there's no restrooms or water fountains during the tour.
Once you start the tour after getting off the bus, you'll be standing and walking for a good 2-3 hours, and the only seating is when you get back to the museum near the end of the tour. So be aware that you'll be on your feet for almost the whole time.

James was excellent. He made a point to make sure everyone in the group was caught up and could hear before beginning to explain each area and repeatedly asked if we had additional questions. There were a few key areas where he stayed outside and let the group go in and view at their own pace allowing a more emotional and individual experience. We learned so much.
