Chacchoben Mayan Ruins is the most popular and visited attraction for a day in Costa Maya. It is approximately 50 minutes drive from Costa Maya Port. This site is just a few kilometers from the village of Chacchoben from which it's name derive. The translation of the Mayan word "Chacchoben" refers to "The Place Of The Red Corn". The structures at this site are characterized by large temples and massive platforms dated from 700 AD.

Friendly tour guides. Went in a passenger van with about 16 seats. All seats in the van were filled, with our baby riding on a lap.

Mayan ruins are an experience to remember. Well maintained with an easy walking path to several sites to admire.
An added highlight was seeing spider monkeys playing high in the trees near the ruins.
Two things to note. You will not be able to allowed to walk-up more than several steps on the ruins for a picture. Also plan for an hour drive from port pickup area to ruins drop off.

If you prefer to learn something about ancient Mayan culture, vs. shopping or bars, this is a great option. 100% family-friendly. Getting to & from the bus is a bit of a walk, but not over the top. Bus was cool and comfortable. Scenery along the way was very interesting. Ruins were spectacular. Narrator/tour guide did an excellent job (provided information both ways on the ride, as well as on the ruins tour). Participants will learn a lot! Highly recommended.

Overall excellent tour exactly as advertised. We comfortably traveled in a 12-passenger air conditioned van. Our guide, Eliseo, was an excellent communicator and possessed great knowledge of the Mayan people and ruins. Bottles of cold water were available at no charge. Four hours total time.

The local guide was knowledgeable and informative. Nice weather in January to go. The only complaint I have is not enough information about when to meet beforehand. It was not clear on the Viator tour site.

This tour exceeded our expectations. From the transportation, to the guide, to the site itself; the tour was over the Top.
I will highly recommend it to my friends and family.

Victor, the van driver, was outstanding. He was friendly knowledgeable, took good care to make sure we are happy and safe. He explained about the surrounding areas and culture. He even took the time to stop at a Roadside fruit stand so that we could get some fresh pineapple and mango. The tour guide at the ruins was also excellent and knowledgable! ( Sadly, I forgot his full name, but it began with an E). He explained the Mayan society, social structure, and gave great insight into Mayan life. We gained a deeper appreciation for all the Mayan contributions to modern society

Juan Carlos, Daniel and team were absolutely wonderful. Bad weather shortened our day in Costa Maya, the team adjusted the itinerary accordingly. The team was engaging and knowledgeable. The Ruins were cool to see and we even got to climb one of them. The best part of the trip was the nachos and quesadilla we purchased from the stand at the ruin site. Even with the bad weather, we had a great time!

This tour was well organized and easy to navigate. We were picked up and transported out of the terminal to wear our tour bus picked us up and took us to the ruins. Juan Carlos was knowledgeable, professional and entertaining. My 5 year old, 16 month old and husband had a great time visiting the ruins and learning about Mayan history and culture.
