This is the spot that the ancient Athenians chose to honor their god Poseidon, within a fortress constructed to protect their coastline.

Pick up from your hotel, apartment, Airbnb, Athens airport, or Piraeus port. We need about 1,5 hours to get to Sounio.
2. Glyfada
Glyfada is a suburb in South Athens located in the Athens Riviera. It is situated in the southern parts of Athens' urban area. The area stretches from the foot of the Hymettus mountain to the Saronic Gulf. It is the largest of Athens' southern suburbs.
3. Voula
Voula is a southern suburb of Athens.
4. Vouliagmeni
Vouliagmeni is a seaside suburb and former municipality 20 km south of Athens city center.
5. Varkiza
Varkiza, also Alianthos, is a suburb of greater Athens forming part of the municipality of Vari-Voula-Vouliagmeni in southern Attica

Anavyssos is a town and a former municipality in East Attica.

Cape Sounion is the promontory at the southernmost tip of the Attic peninsula, 8 kilometers (5.0 mi) south of the town of Lavrio (ancient Thoricus), and 70 kilometers (43 mi) southeast of Athens. It is part of Lavreotiki municipality, East Attica. It is 59.6 km away from Athens. Cape Sounion is noted for its Temple of Poseidon, one of the major monuments of the Golden Age of Athens. Its remains are perched on the headland, surrounded on three sides by the sea.

The ancient Greek temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion, built during 444–440 BC, is one of the major monuments of the Golden Age of Athens. A Doric temple, overlooks the sea at the end of Cape Sounion, at a height of almost 60 meters (200 ft).
9. Lake Vouliagmeni
During our return to the city of Athens, we will stop at one of the most idyllic places. Vouliagmeni Lake, in the heart of the Athenian Riviera, is the hidden treasure of Attica's nature. Lake Vouliagmeni ("Sunken Lake") is a small brackish-water lake fed by underground currents seeping through the mass of Mount Hymettus located to the south of Vouliagmeni.

This was a fantastic experience. I ended up going by myself because my husband woke up not feeling well. Giannis was a wonderful guide and great company. I enjoyed conversation with him and he was quite knowledgeable of all the places we went. We had some extra time and Giannis took me to see Leviticus hill. Wow!
The ride was comfortable and Giannis was great! I would highly recommend this.

This place is definitely worth the detour.

It is located at the very bottom of the peninsula, on the seafront, which it overlooks by a few dozen meters.

You will first be able to visit the archaeological site of the Temple of Poseidon, and wait until the end of the day to admire one of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen in my entire life.

You will not regret this excursion!!!

From the moment our wonderful driver Notis picked us up from our hotel we knew we were in for an unforgettable experience . Notis was very knowledgeable in all things GREEK and explained things to us in a way we understood . We shared many laughs with him . The Temple of Poseidon was breathtakingly beautiful at sunset , and to top off a great night we enjoyed a delicious seafood dinner at a typical Greek Taverna .
We thoroughly recommend this tour with the Greek Food option .

The driver, Nik, is very good - he arrived a bit before time, car was in excellent condition and Nik’s driving was very safe. He was very well behaved and polite. Gave us a lot of information about the local places. Everything went as planned.

Great experience! Nick (our driver) picked us up on time in the hotel lobby—greeted us with a smile and handshake and we were off! Nick pointed out sights along our drive, shared recommendations for additional sights to see in Athens, provided bottled water, and allowed us to take our time to fully enjoy the experience. Tickets were easy to purchase at Temple of Poseidon €10/ea. There is a cafe there if interested in grabbing a bite, too. We also stopped at Lake Vouliagmeni for about 15 min. Tickets to swim in the lake were €14-€16/ea. While we did not swim, you’d likely want at least an hour to enjoy a swim so be sure to discuss that with your driver. Beautiful drive, wonderful experience and so easy!
