Embark on an unforgettable tour to the true tip of the African continent where the 2 oceans officially meet. Discover a small breeding colony of African penguins beforehand and also taste South Africa's award-winning cool climate wines in the Hemel n Arder wine region. Explore an untamed Moravian town from the 1820s called Elim and enjoy plenty photo opportunities as we traverse the extreme south coast of the country on this tour. Albeit being a long drive, The Cape Agulhas tour is much more an authentic experience with a less touristic feel for those in search for such a niche market. The use of a comfortable private vehicle is also guaranteed.

WHAT TO EXPECT

1. Betty's Bay
Betty's Bay is a coastal town an hour east of Cape Town. It was a whaling station in the late 1800s. Later it became better known for its unusual resident: the African penguin! The penguins settled at Stoney Point beach at the of the 20th century. This made Stoney point one of 2 mainland penguin colonies. Guests will have some time to walk along the penguin beach and see the penguins up close.
2. Hamilton Russell Vineyards
It would be an injustice to drive through one of the best wine regions in the country and not stop. The Hemel n Aarde (wine region is both close to the sea and at a higher altitude than the Cape Winelands. This is the perfect climate for the cool-climate grape variety. This means wines that are subtle, crisp acidity, a lighter body, and bright fruit flavours. The valley is able to produce some of the best pinot noirs and Chardonnay wines in the country. Your wine tasting experience at Hamilton Russell will not disappoint.
3. Hermanus
After the wine tasting experience, the tour will continue towards Hermanus. A quaint coastal town which is also South Africa's whale watching capital city. Whales can be spotted here from the whale trail along the shores between the months of June and November every year. Hermanus is also known to be one of of South Africa's gastronomy towns and you will be able to have lunch here before the tour continues South east towards Elim.
4. Elim
From Cape Agulhas, our journey will take us through a picturesque village called Elim. Elim was established in 1824 by German settlers. It was the 3rd Moravian station near Cape Town and very little has changed over the years. Rows of whitewashed, thatch-roofed cottages line the streets of this charming village. And all the fig tree-lined streets lead to the church! Guests will have time to walk around and visit the town's small rose garden.
5. Cape Agulhas - Southernmost Tip of Africa
3 hours Southeast of Cape town City is the most Southern tip of the African continent: Cape Agulhas. It's here that the warm Indian Ocean collides with the icy Atlantic. The rugged coastline hosts over 21 000 wetland and seabirds of different types. The Serengeti of the seas, named because of its diverse marine life, is also a part of the Cape floral kingdom. The richest floral kingdom in the world! About 2000 different plant species are resident in this area and with over 100 being endemic. While we are here, you will have ample time to explore the coastal plains. You can also visit the Cape Agulhas lighthouse; the second oldest in South Africa. A walk up to the summit of the lighthouse provides one with a bird's eye view of the town and the museum at the bottom.

The entire day was AMAZING with our guide, Rodney. He was friendly, fun, entertaining, and incredibly knowledgeable. This was a definite highlight of our trip. He went above and beyond to entertain our interests (stopping along the route for pictures) and photo antics. 10/10 highly recommend!!

Great long day full of local experiences. Cape Agulhas is a must experience when visiting the continent. The view from the windy lighthouse is great. As were the stops for penguins and whale watching. La Vierge winery had good service and good wine. Kevin was as good a guide as one could ask for.

This tour was phenomenal from the time I booked the experience until the guide returned me safely to my hotel. The tour company provided excellent communication leading up to the tour to confirm my departure time. Kevin, my tour guide, was perfect. He was kind, thoughtful, detailed, and an excellent driver.

This trip is long, and you will spend many hours in the car, but it was SO worth it, and I felt safe the entire time. I was able to witness the most beautiful sunrise on the drive out. Kevin allowed me to stop for coffee and a view of the bay. He handled the curves very well, as much of the drive is along the winding coast and through some mountains. Kevin also checked in to allow me to use the washroom when necessary. He shared a lot of history about the area with me as we were driving. He even pointed out the national flowers when we saw them and slowed down at times so I could observe the baboons hanging out along the side of the road.

Betty's bay was beautiful. The views were lovely, and there were some penguins there.

The winery (La Vierge) was excellent. I visited Stellenbosch the day before. What I appreciated about the winery on this tour was that it was small and family-owned. It was a great personal touch, and I enjoyed the selection of wines. The views from the patio were beautiful. I would definitely return to this winery.

Honestly, I could have spent the whole day in Hermanus! It was beautiful. I had the best Cape Malay Curry for lunch at Bientangs. I would suggest other visitors have lunch there. The service was excellent, the food was prepared quickly, and the views were out of this world. The whales were quite active on the day of my tour. Having lunch on the water and watching the whales was so lovely.

Next up was Cape Agulhas. It was so beautiful. The winds were powerful, so be sure to bring a jacket. It was nice to walk along the boardwalk, climb to the top of the lighthouse, and then finally stand at the point where the oceans meet. The experience there was both powerful and relaxing. I could have easily sat and watched the waves crash on the shore all day.

The drive back to Cape Town is a solid three hours. But again, Kevin did a great job, and we stopped for the washroom as needed. He always knew of safe and clean rest stops. The best part about the ride back was watching the sunset. The colors in the sky were beautiful. I mentioned to the guide how much I love sunsets, and he offered to stop so I could take a quick photo. This was very thoughtful.

Thank you to Cape Archives Tours and my guide, Kevin, for a trip I will never forget. I appreciate the level of thoughtfulness and care extended during my tour, especially since I was traveling as a solo traveler. Kevin was also a great photographer, which was nice so that I could capture my experience. I will definitely use you all again for future tours!

Our tour guide, Peter, was knowledgeable and well -informed about so much of the history, wildlife and plants and flowers we saw on this amazing trip. I would recommend this trip whole-heartedly! We saw whales, penguins, many birds, had a delightful wine tasting and saw where two oceans meet. 10 out of 10

Our tour guide, Kevin, was simply amazing! He was very knoedgeable as he took us along the coast to Betty's Bay, Gordon's Bay, a winery for tasting near Hermanus, Hermanus, Elim and finally to the southern tip of Africa, Cape Aghulas. He was informative and even though the trip was long, he was upbeat and had positive energy. He knew we have a keen interest in fauna and flora and along the way identified animals (e.g. blue crane of South Africa) and different species of flowers (e.g. pretoa). We highly recommend this tour! Thank you Kevin for an amazing day.

We had a great day with our guide Joseph. He drove us along the coast seeing beautiful vistas and arriving to see the penguins. They are amazing. We then went to the small town of Hermanus and saw whales, did some shopping and lunch. From there we drove to Cape Agulhas, the most southern tip of Africa where the Atlantic Ocean and Indian Ocean meet. It is a beautiful and iconic place in the world. Since we had not ever seen the Indian Ocean I waded in the water and that made my day. We then drove 3 hours back to Cape Town enjoying the small towns and beautiful farm land. Amazing day.
