Your Budapest experience must include the Jewish district - the former Ghetto area. We have been on a mission to passionately help visitors learn about the Hungarian Jewish history, culture and heritage for over 25 years now.
On this tour we present Europe's largest synagogue the Dohany, the Heroes' Temple synagogue and the recently renovated magnificent Rumbach synagogue from inside, while we stroll along the streets of the former Budapest Ghetto and learn about Righteous Gentiles who helped save many lives during the dark times of the Hungarian Holocaust and Jewish life in Budapest today. The tour offers an insight into the various Hungarian Jewish movements in today's cultural, commercial and entertainment center of our colorful, multicultural and breathtaking Budapest - all for the cost of almost the entrance tickets of the Dohany and Rumbach synagogues alone.

Although my tour was cancelled due to the illness of the tour guide, Viator was great. They offered a refund or a ticket that I could use on my own. I opted for the ticket and was able to get a free tour of the synagogue and memorial park. I was very pleased with their service.

Synagogues, surrounds and ghetto street sights were well worth visiting. Cemetery and Memorials at Doheny synagogue were memorable and heartbreaking. For the most part, however, we lost the benefit of a guided tour because our tour guide Mickey provided some interesting and useful information but overall he spoke too quietly, in a monotone, his explanations were wordy and rambling, and he didn’t have control of the group and continued to answer repetitive questions. He turned a scheduled 1 -1/2 hour tour into a 2- 1/2 hour tour, which caused our foursome to lose interest early on.

Check the opening times, any Jewish holidays and get there early as it's a popular attraction.

You'll be expected to walk through a security gate and have your bags checked.

If you turn up in vesty tops and short shorts, don't worry... you won't be turned away. Instead, you'll be kitted out in a disposable robe/theatre gown type outfit so you can still enjoy the tour.

If you're interested in joining the guided tours, look out for the flag (of the country) of your choice, at the end of the pews in the main worship area. You can join one that has started or wait for one begin.

You can also opt to upgrade your ticket to a "Jewish Heritage Guided Tour" where you can visit four synagogues in the local area.

There isn't an awful lot to see or do and I think the entrance fee of £20 per person, is quite expensive.
