This was a very good day. Jamie picked me up at the Westin early and then 2 other people before we headed to Aquila Reserve. We were early enough that Jamie offered a wine tasting stop at De Wet cellar—very nice white wines. After a buffet lunch which had a lot of options, we headed out in a covered vehicle with about 20 people. Not crowded.
Lots of sightings, including lions (the best). Very easy and fun.

We were staying in Cape Town and made the 2.5 hour trek to see the Big Five. Our driver Donnie picked us up at our hotel on time. He was friendly, informative and a great driver. We saw baboons and enjoyed seeing the countryside in route. There were two stops, we felt the second stop wasn’t necessary as we arrived at the destination 20 minutes later.

We arrived at Agulia just before noon and found a table for lunch. It’s a buffet with a wide variety of of food. I’m picky, a pescatarian and enjoyed it.

Then we boarded the safari vehicles and headed out. If you do t have time to go on safari, this is a quick and easy way to see some animals. We saw ostrich’s, water buffalo, zebras, lions, elephants and giraffes. The vehicles are open air and the ride is bumpy, exactly what we expected. I have a feeling, many of the animals are fed at certain times and places so they can insure you’ll see them… which is great, but it somewhat remove the being in the wild feel. Toward the end of the tour, there’s a rest stop with beverages and then it’s back to the beginning.

Note: the bench seats on the left side of the safari vehicle are a seat and a half. The bench seats on the right are two seats. If you want to take photos being on the outside is obviously better, but we were allowed to stand up to take photos when stopped.

We had a few minutes to look around and visit the gift shop, some local art, jewelry, etc would have been a nice addition to the T-Shirts and magnets. Thereafter, Donnie picked us up and we headed back to Cape Town. It was a great day.

We’ll be back in Africa for a full safari next year, so this was an appetizer for us and we enjoyed it!

The guide was a bit too political and polorizing. Kind but too many political thoughts during ride. The actual adventure was great I wish I would have just booked Aquila alone… it would have been much cheaper and the transit there (I should have just got a rental)

As an older female solo traveller, this was such a treat. I was looked after wonderfully by my driver, Mike, who took the time to share his extensive knowledge of this beautiful region on the way to Aquila. The safari experience itself exceeded my expectations: seeing so many amazing animals up close & hearing about all the ways they are being protected was very special indeed.

We had an amazing experience from start to finish. Melody, our tour guide, was amazing, very gracious, and kind. She was so knowledgeable & shared much about everything (crops, culture, politics, food, economy, racial dynamics, etc) during the two-hour drive from our location to the game reserve. Once we arrived, we were warmly greeted and provided a delightful buffet-style lunch with various options. The meal did not disappoint. The Safari was unbelievable. We saw all but one of the Big Five, but that was in no way attributed to our guide, who went over and beyond to make it an unforgettable day. Overall, this was definitely a bucketlist experience that we would highly recommend!

Highly recommend! My driver/guide was Mike, and he was fantastic! He provided lots of recommendations, great conversation, and great advice for the best experience at the reserve. Once in the reserve the views of the animals were great and provide great photo opportunities.

Lovely setting and set up the only complaint is that we had six trucks leaving at the same time and all trying to look at the first giraffe at once. Don’t understand why they couldn’t go in different directions

I went to the Big Five Safari with my family, we were picked up by our lovely Tour Guide Mike. He was very pleasant, had a good sense of humour and was very knowledgeable he made the 2-3 hour drive quite enjoyable accompanied with lovely music, good views and so much needed rest stops.

The venue of the Safari was gorgeous the decor and structure of the place was wonderful and the food was fantastic and the actual Safari was really fun.

Our guide Keanu was wonderful and had a few jokes of his own. Overall we had a wonderful experience the only downside was the horrible cloudy and cold weather which did damper the experience a little bit other than that we had a great time and will definitely come back at some stage( Hopefully with much better weather because we all caught colds afterwards ?)
