1. Imjingak Pyeonghoa-Nuri Park
This park was built to console the refugees who left North Korea during the Korean War.

You will see the Freedom bridge built to liberate 12,773 prisoners in 1953. The bridge was used by South Koreans returning home from the North. So dive into the cultural and emotional significance of the space by walking in their footsteps decades later! Located against a beautiful natural backdrop, the bridge is a fantastic place for photos, so get inspired and create some memories!
3. DMZ
DMZ Theater – the past in action At the DMZ Theater, you will have an opportunity to watch a short 7-8 minute video about the Korean conflict. The video provides a South Korean perspective on the Korean War, how the DMZ came about, and today’s current situation. It also gives some background to the infiltration tunnels that North Korea dug. Having just had the opportunity to walk through the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel, it should be pretty enlightening. DMZ Exhibition Hall – the best place for history lovers The next point on your DMZ experience is the Exhibition Hall. Here, you will see some key artefacts to give you a better understanding of our bitter history. Containing photos, documents, and some remnants from the past, a walk through the Exhibition Hall will provide you with a deeper and more visual knowledge of the conflict. There are many exhibits on display and some interesting facts for history buffs.
4. The Third Tunnel
A stop not to be missed on our itinerary is the 3rd Infiltration Tunnel. Located 12 kilometres away from Munsan and 52 from Seoul, the tunnel was discovered in 1978. Its purpose was to be used to invade the south. At 1,635 meters long, 2 meters high and 2 wide, the tunnel has the capacity of moving an entire division per hour! The curious fact here is that when the tunnel was discovered, North Korea alleged that the south had built it for a surprise attack, but evidence points to the contrary. Walking through will feel like you’ve stepped back in time!
5. Dora Observatory
Enjoy clear views at Dorasan Observatory Sitting at the top of Dorasan, the Observatory is ideal for looking across the border. This is the part closest to the North and is one of travelers’ favorite highlights on the tour! So get a once-in-a-lifetime look at isolated North Korea on our Half Day DMZ tour! Use the high powered binoculars on the third floor for extra precision. You will be able to see the North’s propaganda village located right inside the DMZ and see as far as Gaesong, the ninth-largest city in North Korea. My teenage son and I enjoy thoroughly enjoyed our trip to the DMZ in late December 2023. When signing up with Viator (tour aggregator) and VIP Tours earlier in the year, I thought I’d hear from them once before our tour. I was wrong.

Viator confirmed our tour and went to great lengths to clearly clarify the tour pick-up point and time. These are important details in a city as big as Seoul. When I switched lodging, VIP Tours quickly and clearly communicated an alternative pick-up point. They clearly and frequently communicated the tour’s (very few) requirements: your real passport (no copies). Our tour departed on-time and our group had Jenny as our guide.

Jenny proved to be a wonderful narrator of the DMZ. Along with the expected history leading up to the DMZ, she spoke of the existential sorrow felt by people in tSouth have over their divided country. She also wove in poignant political and military points over the past 70 years.

Any would-be visitor to the DMZ should know of the competition among the two dozen guides for the time-limited spots to see DMZ “attractions.” The limits are set by the South Korean authorities. It became clear that having a guide who understands how to get spots for their group affects the tour’s efficiency, i.e. whether your group is the first or last to see a site. Here, Jenny clearly knows how to play that game, and we saw them all without delay or hindrance.

We thoroughly enjoyed and found great value in our time with Jenny and VIP Tours.

Amazing tour with one of the best tour guides. Mr. Cool made the tour interesting fun and provided amazing historical facts about Korea. I would highly recommend the tour with Mr. Cool. Also, I would like to say thank you to our bus driver who got us quickly there safely so that we can be one of the 10 buses to be allowed into the DMZ for the day. If you are interested and I will do it again the next time I visit Korea in the spring, I would go with the same company and try to get on the tour group with Mr. Cool.

What a fantastic tour with VIP Travel to the DMZ. It had been snowing the previous day and the tours had been cancelled but the company were very organised and they organised the itinerary to suit a potential cancellation.

Our tour guide Cool was very informative and made sure our visit was seamless. He was very smiley and friendly and was able to answer all our questions and give us advice! Even after the tour, the roads near our hotel were closed so he made sure we had assistance getting the subway back to our hotel.

Would highly recommend this trip to anyone thinking of doing the tour!

We booked a tour on New Year’s Eve but given the snow conditions the night before the DMZ area only allowed 10 buses for the day. Our tour guide Cool was amazing and super organised. He made our tour extra early so we would be the first bus to get to the place. We booked a half day tour and he upgraded the trip to full day to get there first. The gondola ride was gifted as a free gesture for waiting most of the morning. Would highly recommend mr cool and Lee, they were quick, organised and experienced.
