This tour takes you to Aveiro considered by many as the "Venice of Portugal" which is famous for its large network of canals running through the city. In this Tour you will also take a cruise on a "moliceiro" boat (a traditional boat from this city) which will take you along the channels as you admire the city’s unique tile facades. You will also have the opportunity to see the colorful houses in Costa Nova. Aveiro has a rich and varied gastronomy, and the “soft eggs” - a very sweet desert are also one the main representations of Aveiro.

We took this tour on our last afternoon of our trip to Porto having seen all the main attractions of the city. The colourful photos and lively description made the tour sound inviting and a good option to squeeze in some final sights.

As the tour was only from 2-6pm, and as it took about an hour to get to Casa Nova, 15 minutes to get to Aveiro and an hour back, this meant the time exploring was actually very brief. We had 30 minutes to explore Casa Nova, a 40 minute boat ride and 50 minutes at Aveiro. The tour included travellers from various locations so information was given twice, first in English then French.

The information given on the tour bus was fairly basic (which roads were were taking, which trees we were seeing) and difficult to focus on due to the language switching, but credit to our guide for his enthusiasm.

Casa Nova only needed the brief stop to take photos of the seafront and grab an ice cream before heading back to the coach.

The boat ride at Aveiro was not worth the time and consisted of going up and down an industrial canal with about 5 minutes at the end going through Aveiro town proper. There was commentary on the salt industry but it was mostly tourist fluff.

The 50 minutes in Aveiro was actually 40 once factoring in walking to and from the bus, and then 35 due to the very brief introduction and signposting. Due to relaxed service we only had time to try a recommended soft egg (an acquired taste) and have a coffee, have a power walk through a few streets and then head back.

In hindsight it probably would have been nicer to visit some of the lesser known places in Porto than have spent the time travelling for little pay off - Aveiro is very small and Porto riverfront much lovelier than the canals. If you're in Porto for a long time then it's a filler activity (and perhaps a welcome relaxed day for tired feet, but it is a mix of resting on the bus/boat and clock-watching and rushing otherwise!) but don't go due to fear of missing out, and consider a trip to the national park as a day trip instead.

Sadly, this was a complete waste of time and money. We did not have enough time in Aveiro to shop, explore, or enjoy the surroundings. Our guide did not share any useful information or historical stories about the city.

Wish we had taken the train on our own so we could have a better experience!

thought we had a small group tour of 6-8 people but ended up a group of 28...too big! The guides were nice but would never have signed up for a tour this large. SO...everyone, READ THE FINE PRINT BEFORE BOOKING

Little free time does not give time to do anything or see anything, one is at one's own expense to pay to enter the sites, I don't like it at all

Portugal's Venice is a bit disappointing: only 3 canals.
The guide was fine but the tour was not really worth it.

Very nice little 4-hour excursion to get out of Porto a little and see something else. We were lucky, the visit was ultimately semi-private, there were only 4 of us with the guide! Mario is a great guide, funny, reassuring and who gives lots of interesting explanations.
Bad luck for Costa Nova, the weather was gray but the row of small fishermen's houses remains very pretty. Aveiro is a nice little coastal town that is worth traveling there. The streets are charming, the art deco buildings are everywhere, the moliceiro ride is nice.
