AVOID this company, unprofessional, discourteous and incompetent- they changed our booking to Auschwitz-Birkenau at the last minute (evening before) to collection at 5.45AM instead of 10am; they have forced us to cancel a highlight of our trip. Our hotel serves breakfast from 6AM and there are no food facilities at Auschwitz-Birkenau, leaving us no choice but to decline. This was booked prior to our trip to Poland. The change was out of hours so no chance of an alternative; I am astonished at the lack of care for customers.

We visited the museum when staying in Krakow for the Christmas markets. The transfer was fantastic, and the tour was very interesting. However due to over selling tickets for the midday entry we queued for a long time in the cold to get through the airport style security (unnecessary in my opinion). We were then behind schedule so were taken on the tour but it felt very rushed. If you were near the back of the tour group (not lingering) you lost reception and couldn’t hear the talk. I felt very sorry for a slightly older man who almost got left behind. Turns out we had to be in and out of the 2nd site by 3:30 so that’s why 30 mins had to be made up. You didn’t have any time to read any of the notices of take a few moments at the displays.
I can’t imagine I will have the opportunity to go again so disappointing.

The actual tour was great, our transport was great, our driver Majeck was fantastic and really accommodating to not only us but other people in our group too.
The actual tour was really eye opening for obvious reasons, not a lot of wheelchair accessibility at all, so do take that into consideration, plus with all the snow made it difficult to navigate.
Slight lack of communication from Viator as our pick up time changed from 8am to 05:40am and only had an email, no app notification etc, or a change on the actual booking.
But all in all a humbling experience, also our tour guide actually for Auschwitz was very knowledgeable.

A little blunder from the start as we received an e mail the night before the trip at 8 pm saying our trip time was changed from 7am to 5.55am due to a lack of tour guides and as this e mail went into the junk ( we luckily checked when we woke up ) we had to rush to get ready, thankfully the driver understood and organised a different pick up location. We thought they could have text us and let us confirm the change. Insightful trip with an opportunity to watch a documentary on the way, tour guide very knowledgeable. A must do

This is not a place to go for enjoyment; but to witness the worst atrocities that people can do to each other. No matter how much you read about it, how many documentaries you watch, nothing will truly prepare you for what you will see and feel.

I will not describe the exhibits, as each visitor will be aware of what they will be seeing. The photos, artefacts and human remains are displayed respectfully, yet shake you to your core.

Krakow Direct managed the excursion fairly well. We were picked up by mini bus from our hotel in the Old Town and then transferred to a bigger coach for the journey.

The film documentary played on the coach is to ‘set the correct tone’ and is brutally hard to watch at times. Not recommend for children at all.

Sadly, the ‘guaranteed no queuing for entry’ was not accurate in the slightest. Our coach party took almost an hour to get from the coach, through the mass of people and through the security scanners. We missed our entry time which added to the hold up whilst the tour organiser made arrangements to get us all through. Apparently this was all do to us being on the last group entry slot time.

The headsets provided meant everyone could hear the guide clearly, even when spread out and in different parts of the buildings.

The tour around Auschwitz I was thorough and did not feel rushed. After we all returned to the coach, we took the five minute journey to Birkenau where we spent maybe 30 minutes maximum seeing two barracks only, due to all the wasted time at the start of the trip. This meant we missed many of the areas in Birkenau completely.

Some points for visitors to consider:

Respect the rules - our somber and knowledgeable guide was highly offended by some group members taking “selfies”, eating sandwiches whilst walking round, laughing and talking in unnecessarily loud voices. The rest of us were offended by these people when they chose to argue back with the guide, who threw them off the tour.

The camp is not easily accessible for visitors with mobility needs - there are many steps throughout the camp, uneven floors, dark spaces and at this time of year, compacted ice and snow everywhere.

There are toilet facilities just outside the entrance and within the camp.

There is very limited food and drink; vending machines only and strictly no hot drinks can be taken into the camp.

This is a difficult tour for anyone, and one that cannot be explained until you experience it for yourself. We were lucky to have Michael as our guide and he was extremely knowledgeable and helpful throughout the whole thing.
I would use them again solely based on this experience.

The tour has been a very frustrating experience to me.
After booking the tour, it was confirmd by e-mail (during the booking process I was informed about this procedure) a day previously to the tour that I had to be at the meeting point exactly at 09:50AM.
This was exactly what I did ….a bout 9:00 on the day of the tour, I was leaving to the meeting point and by luck I checked my e-mail box as I usually do every day. To my surprise, there was an email (sent during the night) from the tour operator asking me to be there not at 10:50Am, but 09:30AM. Making a long story short, I was at the meeting point 9:40AM, but not in time to get the tour so unfortunately I missed it and considered a no show passenger … I will not be reimbursed of course!!!!
I’m not saying that they were wrong because they sent an e-mail, but here is the point: who on earth nowadays read personal e-mails all the time everyday? Nobody for sure.
The most common way to communicate is cell messages, specially in the case of service providers, in this case tour who must have a very dynamic relation with customers. Maybe e-mails worked 10 or 15 years ago …. Not today anymore.
So here is the message: carefull with this company, they are still in 80s ….

The guide we had was very very knowledgeable and passionate around the history and used the words ss and gestapo rather than Germans. We were late being picked up and then a road accident held us for 1 hr we then only had around 1 hr tour then around 30 minutes at the camp.
