Visit the World War II Auschwitz-Birkenau complex and learn about the Nazi Holocaust on this 7-hour trip from Krakow. You will be picked up from the city centre and taken by coach to the UNESCO World Heritage Site in Oświęcim.

Explore the two camps with either a professional guide who will carefully, and sensitively explain everything that you can see. You will see the barracks and poignant museum exhibits at Auschwitz I, as well as the gas chambers, watchtowers and memorials in Auschwitz II-Birkenau. You will learn about the history of the Holocaust and the liberation of Auschwitz in 1945, as well as hear individual stories of some of the camp's prisoners.

1. Krakow
Your trip starts with a ride from Krakow, either from your hotel or a meeting spot you pick. It takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes to get to Auschwitz. When you arrive in Oswiecim, take a quick break for coffee or to look around outside. Then, a friendly local guide, licensed by the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum, will meet you and lead your tour.
2. Panstwowe Muzeum Auschwitz-Birkenau
When you arrive at your destination, you will be met by your professional guide and enter the site at Auschwitz I, walking through the gate to the camp that bears the inscription Arbeit Macht Frei (Work Sets You Free). The Auschwitz-Birkenau complex was established in 1940 in place of old polish army barracks. Originally to hold Polish POW`s political prisoners, and operated until its liberation by advancing soviets in 1945. During its operation, more than 1.5 million Jewish, Polish, Italian and French prisoners were brought here ,of which 1.1m. was exterminated as part of largest genocide in human history. Leaving survivors terribly scared for live. The Auschwitz complex comprises of original buildings and you can see the original roads, fences, watchtowers and railway ramps, and death wall. Visit some of the barracks on the Auschwitz I complex, which now house a collection of original exhibitions and documents, as well as articles stolen from prisoners upon camp arrival.
3. Brzezinka
The second part of the tour - Birkenau (Auschwitz II) - the largest camp from over 40 camps and sub-camps from Auschwitz complex. Originally planned as a camp for Soviet prisoners of war, it eventually became a concentration camp for prisoners of various nationalities and a center of the extermination of Jews. Its construction began in October 1941 by hands of slave labourers, in a place of displaced and mostly demolished village of Brzezinka and three kilometres from Auschwitz I. It was design to hold 125 000 prisoners at one time. Who was from the start destined to die from cold, hunger, diseases and of exhaustion. Prisoners was treated as redundant and easily replaceable work force. You will sea unimaginable living condition, prisoners have to adapt. You can walk to preserved camp barracks. You will see rail ramp, when infamous Dr. Mengele oversaw selection process of new arrivals, when split second decided of you life or death in gas chambers. Which were only 200m away.
4. Krakow
After the tour, we don't hurry you. You'll have at least 20 minutes to stop at a bookstore, grocery store, or just take a break. Then, after another 1 hour and 15 minutes on the road, we'll take you back to a set place in Krakow.

• DEPARTURE TIME ️: The start time of the tour may change due to the limited number of guides available at the Auschwitz Museum. Do not book unless you want to travel all the way to Poland to be informed less than 24 hours before the trip that viator overbooked the tour so you can no longer go and they left it so last minute to let us know that no other tickets were available so we never got to visit auschwitz. This holiday was also for our anniversary so you can imagine the absolute disappointment of this. Didn't completely ruin the holiday but means we will have to pay to travel to Poland again if we went to visit auschwitz. I'd never book with these again.

The most important part of this tour is to give respect to the victims. We had no opportunity to do that as we were rushed around both sites at a disrespectful speed. We are very disappointed that we now have this memory

I had booked a pick up time of 09:30, I was then sent a txt the evening before my tour to be told the company i had booked with had not pre booked the tickets. This meant my new time slot for pick up would be 04:10. This would enable me to get to Auschwitz and try and get on a tour with spaces left on it. I politely refused and asked for a full refund.
The only reason this is not a terrible rating is Viator where very helpful in getting me a full refund. The chat fucntion was very helpful.
I managed to book this tour through my hotel paid a little more, but got hotel pickup and had a pre booked ticket.

I have read and seeing lots of documentaries about the holocaust but seeing the camps was overwhelming. It is so difficult to understand how people can commit such atrocities against other people. Seeing the inhumane conditions in which they lived was very different. I pray that we never repeat this again.

We had booked it for 9.15am but got a message the day before saying they had to pick us up earlier..4.05am 😞. As it was the reason we came to krakow we had to go with it. We set off with 4 other people . Got to Auschwich at about 5.45 waiting in little carpark outside for over an hour then went into the camp carpark. The tour organiser came to get the other 4 people at 7.30 and left us on bus for another hour. We eventually got our tickets for 8.30 tour. 2 hours wasted waiting on bus and we had to go to bed earlier the night before. Really enjoyed the tour itself. Our tour guide was so knowledgeable and spoke from the heart. You could hear the emotion in her voice .

I have come away with a renewed appreciation for the people who detained there.

Very solemn. A true experience of history that everyone should witness.

Our tour guide was amazing and opened up our minds to the true horror that these people endured.

The surrounding village/town of both camps is nice and cute with a tight knit community.

The museum and camps themselves are very well preserved.
