NorthernShots' Aurora Chase offers the best chances to seek out the aurora borealis (northern lights).

Based on constantly updated weather and solar activity reports, our guides take you to where the chances to see the lights are the highest.

A professional photographer helps you to capture the Northern Lights on your camera. You will also be able to request a professional portrait of you with the aurora (optional).

The tour does not have a pre-determined itinerary but adapts flexibly according to the visibility conditions found on the way. We may also stay in the same place if the weather conditions prove to be better there.

You will experience a dynamic 4-8 hours tour departing from Tromsø and seeking the Northern Lights in the most scenic locations of the region.

Phone available from (10am - 6pm)

Big bus, strange guide with strange communication skills. Although we saw northern lights what was wonderful. The company provided no thermal suits etc.
Next day we did a tour with another company we would recommend much more:
ARCTIC EXPLORERS !! ( small group and bus, with thermal suits and shoes from the company, a very good and competent guide, warm food, great explanation of the source of northern lights etc). only a little bit more expensive (15€} but absolutely worth IT.

This was a terrible experience. This company took 3 bus loads of people (approx 160+ people) with 3 photographers to assist. They took us out to a nice location and we did see the northern lights, but there were way to many people and it was chaos. People were shining flash lights everywhere and screwing up pictures of people who knew what they were doing. When I booked the trip, I was led to believe it was a small group setting. I would definitely not recommend this!

Had a great time and we were very lucky in that we had a clear night to see the northern lights. As the spot was pretty clear, we remained in that one position for the whole time. It got down to about -7 but strong winds so wrap up warm and be prepared to stand outside for hours (you can go back on the bus if you want). You’ll get a nice tea or hot chocolate at about 9pm which will warm you up. One other thing to note is that we were a big coach of people and 2 other coaches (plus some cars) came to the same spot, so it might feel busy at times, but you can move to a quiet spot if you like!

Marius and Maty were our guides. We wouldn't have been able to see the Northern Lights -- or fully appreciate them -- without their expertise!

Fantastic experience. Experienced guides and comfortable buses. We caught a stunning show of the Aurora in all its glory.
It’s a little disappointing that they don’t offer free photography like some other tour agencies

It was a great experience and we did get to see the Northern Lights, along with getting a professional photograph taken which I have now purchased as I liked it so much! We also learnt lots of facts about the Northern Lights from our tour guide on the bus journey.

The only downside is that I wish these tours would be more honest about what the Northern Lights look like in real life/the naked eye BEFORE the tour! It's definitely not what it looks like in the pictures.

Pros:
Check-in and guidance to the bus was well organized.
Tour guides were perfect.
The whole experience is priceless if you are lucky to see the northern lights.

Cons:
I suggest you to rest well before this chase. The cold weather drained our energy so fast and we fell asleep after our first round of photos.

If I could give zero stars, I would. Our booking had already been paid and confirmed with Viator and we got to the meeting point and they told us that we were not on the list. They blamed Viator but we quickly called Viator and they informed us there was no issues on their end and that the payment was received and confirmed and nothing was out of order. My suspicion is that they over booked and then claimed an issue with Viator. The bus left without us and we planned our whole trip to Norway around seeing the Northern Lights. Very disappointed.

Although we saw the northern lights (that was great) ,the tour guide and his kind of information was boring, his communication style strange , a little arrogant. Expect a large group in a big bus without meal and thermal suits. Every picture of the tour guide you have to pay.. Don't take this tour.
The next day we did a tour with Arctic Experience, a little bit more expensive but absolut worth the price (small car, little group, very competent guide, thermal suits and boots, meal and pictures included).

We managed to get a number of good shots. Our guide Andreas said that night’s northern lights were the best in 8 days. We had to travel about 1 1/2 hours out of Tromso, and our driver was very good in ensuring a safe ride.

Andreas gave instructions to those with Iphones and Android on how to best capture the photos, but he paid more attention to the small group with cameras. They tried to give maximum time so we stayed till around 1 am, even though there were some on the bus, including children, who were obviously tired by midnight.

They should also have instructed participants on moving around in icy conditions. In fact, a few of the group fell down a couple of times and one even cut their hand.

Overall, it was a good trip as we managed to get the shots, but things could have been managed better. Perhaps assigned seating could have helped. There was a couple who arrived on time but the bus was quite full and they could not get seats together. Andreas then asked the people on the bus if anyone wanted to give up their seats - that’s quite illogical. Why would another couple want to give up their seats together.

Also, once out of the bus, it was too dark to identify each other, even with hi-res vests. Perhaps the guides can wear a low light emitter on their vests so help can be sought if needed on the ground. The hot milo drinks and biscuits were appreciated.
