1. Acropolis
Sightseeing in Athens starts with the hill of Acropolis which will make your day. On the historical hill, you will have the opportunity to see the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, the Temple of the Athena Nike, the monumental gateway (Propylaea), the Erechtheum and of course the famous Parthenon, the main temple dedicated to the virgin goddess Athena.
2. Parthenon
Parthenon, the main temple dedicated to the virgin goddess Athena, the eternal symbol of the Athenian democracy and the western civilization.
3. Propylaea
The Propylaea is the monumental entrances to the sacred area dedicated to Athena, the patron goddess of the city. Built by the architect Mnesicles with Pentelic marble, their design was avant-garde. To the south-west of the Propylaea, on a rampart protecting the main entrance to the Acropolis, is the Ionian temple of Apteros Nike.
4. Erechtheion
Temple of Poseidon and Athena, the strangest and most sacred place in ancient Athens.
5. Temple of Athena Nike
Temple dedicated to the goddess Athena Nike or Wingless Victory.
6. Temple of Olympian Zeus
After the Acropolis, we will head towards the Temple of Zeus, the biggest temple in antiquity, devoted to the King of the Gods, by way of Hadrian's Arch.
7. Panathenaic Stadium
We will visit Panathenaic Stadium where the first modern Olympic Games were held in 1896.
8. Mount Lycabettus
Then moving into the historical center of the city we will drive up the highest hill of Athens, Lycabettus Hill, where you’ll have the best panoramic view of the city, from the hill of Acropolis to the Aegean Sea.
9. Ancient Agora of Athens
Ancient Greek Agora which is considered the birthplace of democracy, philosophy and free speech.
10. Temple of Hephaestus
In the ancient Greek Agora, you will visit the Temple of Hephaestus (the best-preserved temple in Greece standing largely as built) devoted to the God of blacksmiths and volcanoes.
11. Museum of the Ancient Agora
In this small but important museum you will see findings from Ancient Athenians' daily life and learn about their constitution.
12. Plateia Syntagmatos
Next driving alongside the National Garden, we will see the changing of the guard (Euzones) in front of the old palace, which is today Parliament House, above the central square of Athens, Syntagma. The square is named after the Constitution that Otto, the first King of Greece, was obliged to grant after a popular and military uprising on 3 September 1843.

14. The Academy of Athens
The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens is the largest state institution of higher learning in Greece, and among the largest universities in Europe. The splendid Athens University was designed by the Danish architect Christian Hansen and completed in 1864.
15. The Academy of Athens
The Academy Building constitutes one of three parts in an “architectural trilogy”. It was founded with the Constitutional Decree of March 18th, 1926, as an Academy of Sciences, Humanities and Fine Arts.
16. National Library of Greece
The National Library of Greece was built at the end of the 19th century, as the last of the Architectural Trilogy of Athens, a group of three neoclassical buildings which also includes the Academy and the University. The building was designed by Theophil Hansen.
17. Koukaki
You will be feeling hungry by now, so our next stop is going to be a Greek tavern with the authentic Greek Pitta Gyros in the traditional neighbourhood of Koukaki. 19. Acropolis Museum
As you enter the museum grounds, look through the plexiglass floor to see the ruins of an ancient Athenian neighbourhood, which were artfully incorporated into the museum design after being uncovered during excavations. This dazzling modernist museum at the foot of the Acropolis’ southern slope showcases its surviving treasures still in Greek possession. While the collection covers the Archaic and Roman periods, the emphasis is on the Acropolis of the 5th century BCE, considered the apotheosis of Greece’s artistic achievement. Built in 2009, this museum was voted as the best mono-thematic museum for 2019. You can choose to visit either the new Acropolis Museum, or the National Archaeological Museum of Athens or spent time in the neighbourhood of Plaka.
20. National Archaeological Museum
Instead of visiting the new Acropolis Museum, we give you the opportunity to visit the National Archaeological Museum in Athens, that houses some of the most important artifacts from a variety of archaeological locations around Greece from prehistory to late antiquity. It is considered one of the greatest museums in the world and contains the richest collection of artifacts from Greek antiquity worldwide.
21. Plaka
If you don't want to enter the Acropolis or the National Archaeological Museum, you can walk at the traditional neighbourhood with the narrow and picturesque streets, that is known as the neighbourhood of the Gods.

Best part of our trip to Greece. We ended up hiring the private tour guide and it was so worth it. Constantina was so knowledgeable about Greek history and mythology and brought everything to life. It was a long day of hiking through the city but so worth it

Firstly I would like to recognize our tour guide, Sunday. He was exceptional, his knowledge of Athens, both historically and current day was so appreciated. He was able to provide the necessary information our group needed prior to each stop on our tour, and after we returned, he always predicted and was able to answer any follow up questions we had. We had a couple of special requests and he made sure to accommodate those.
Our tour ended with our entire group in wonder of all things Greek. We loved it and can not rate it high enough.

Antonis was absolutely amazing! He went above and beyond our expectations, we are leaving Athens with our heart filled with joy and wonderful memories thanks to our incredible tourist guide. So knowledgeable, caring, wonderful communication skills, he made sure our experience was totally epic! Transportation Mercedes Van was to the top, skill driver for the narrow streets in Athens, our time in Acropolis was incredible, plenty of time for the most amazing pictures. Antonis was all about what we wanted to do to customize our experience to the next level. Love love our tour, seeing in one day incredible city highlights, Ancient Cementery, Temple of Zeus , Ancient Agora, Parthenon, we have wonderful snacks and cappuccino fredo. It was awesome that our tour guide is a chef and was before a restaurant owner so we were enlightened with great greek culinary experience as well. To complete our top notch day we had lunch at Piraeus, wonderful restaurant Zorbas in front of the bay with breathtaking views and so tasty greek food! I couldn’t recommend enough this tour with Antonis. My mother is 84 years old and she had an amazing time same my 26 yo daughter and my husband. Antonis made sure to connect with each one in a meaningful way, thank you so much for making sure we had the BEST memorable experience ever! 🙌🤗♥️♥️♥️

Terrific tour. Almost wasn’t enough time. Chris and Matina were excellent. The Acropolis was amazing. Glad we went early because the crowds grew as the day progressed. We had a great time.

Tess was an amazing guide! He took care of everything, including tickets to sites. He was warm, friendly, knowledgeable, and enriched each stop with insights and stories. His vehicle was comfortable, and the tour included bottled water and lunch. In a single day, we were able to see the Acropolis, Parthenon, Ancient Agora & Museum, Temple of Hephaestus, Hadrian's Arch, Temple of Zeus, Olympic Stadium, Mount Lycabettus, Saint George Chapel, and the Acropolis Museum. And, because it was Sunday, Tess modified the itinerary to get us to Syntagma Square and Parliament just in time to see the weekly parade of the guards. A great experience overall. We would definitely recommend Tess and Olive Sea Travel and will book with them again!

Tess was a great guide! He took care of all the arrangements, including tickets for each site, and provided enriching details and stories as we navigated the city. We were given more than ample time to walk around each site at our own pace and never felt rushed. His vehicle was comfortable and he provided bottled water and lunch as part of the package. Tess also allowed for modifications to the itinerary and because we scheduled the tour on a Sunday, he was able to squeeze in a stop at Syntagma Square and Parliament to see the weekly parade of the guard. He was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating. We would recommend Tess and Olive Sea Travel without hesitation and will definitely book with them again!

Yannis was our driver and knew Athens and the history of Greece really well. He shared a lot of interesting information about the places we visited in Athens. He was very friendly and accommodating with our requests. We had a great time during our one day tour.
