Gold town of Arrowtown is mentioned as a possible visit when in Queenstown but is not rated very high. My experience yesterday was of an exciting, busy town with a great museum, bars, and restaurants, but most importantly, great walks and the opportunity to pan for gold. Just opposite the carpark is the offer of a 20 minute lesson on gold panning from the 2023 gold panning world champion Stu.
The lesson was instructive and fun and we are all set now to give up our day jobs and go panning in the beautiful Arrowtown River beds to make our fortunes, or possibly to find enough to pay for a cup of coffee.
The 25 dollar charge is great value for money.

Excellent trip...our guide was knowledgeable, efficient and we were able to see and enjoy a lot. I like that we had free time in both Wanaka and Arrowstown and it was helpful that restaurants were recommended. Love the Wanaka tree and could not have seen and learned so much on my own....I did this tour with my 20 year old daughter and she enjoyed as well.

Absolute wonderfull experience and our tour guide was very kind and happy to take us around. I was travelling solo in New Zealand and i'm so happy I had this tour booked cause I was able to explore and see more of the lands of Queenstown and the different cultural aspect around, especially the history of the locations we stopped at. I definitely recommend trying the traditntal beer they offer! Amazing experience and would do it again!! to top it off made awesome friends !!
