I have to say it a thousand times that the Anime tour is definitely worth the wait. DO NOT SKIP it on your visit to Japan if you're a fan of Anime. Let's explore the anime museum and try to draw Sailor Moon yourself at the workshop. I will try them again next time, absolutely!

But the highlight was drawing our own anime characters was an empowering experience- This is the my most favourite part in the tour. I visited Tokyo with a friend. As big anime fans and aspiring artists we knew we’d love to see the anime making process first hand. Seiko Oba-San (our Guide) was super nice and accommodating, even willing to wait a few minutes when we ran a little late. At the anime museum we saw signatures from a lot of famous animators and Mangaka that were super exciting and took many pictures. We also got to see the full process and even do a little dub over a little voice acting for fun. The Anime School/Studio was even more exciting. We have been studying for about a year and it was super fun getting to ask questions in Japanese (even though Seiko Oba-San spoke very great english and will translate/converse if you know zero Japanese.) The highlight was definitely getting to learn from Asai Sensei how to draw some anime and Kobata Sensei (who worked on sailor moon and other series) questions about the production. It’s not common you get to speak to a Mangaka and Animation director. Seiko Oba-San was the best guide we could ask for, even walking us to a store to see more anime materials we asked about after the tour and recommending other places we would enjoy. I definitely recommend for anyone interested in Anime :)

This expericence from Japan Awaits really made my dream come true. I wish to have a chance to visit the facility and meet a real animator who is working in the Anime Studio. During a short visit with a real experience, I also participated in a workshop with them and, behold, I drew Sailor Moon. It was an absolutely amazing experience.

This tour turned out to be a fantastic last-minute save! My original trip with a friend fell through, but I snagged a spot on this one and ended up joining a great group. Our guide, Dann, was hilarious! He kept us entertained the whole time and even sparked some awesome conversations about our favorite anime. Three hours flew by, this tour was unforgettable!

I thought it would just be a short tour visiting the facility and watching a short film, but actually, we could talk with the animators who were working there, and we even got to join the workshop. Excited but lol, my bad drawing.

The wait for this tour felt like an eternity, but it was absolutely worth every second! Seven months ago, I contacted Japan Awaits with high hopes, only to find out the tour wasn't available then. However, they assured me they'd keep me posted, and true to their word, they reached out a month ago with fantastic news: they could finally make the tour happen!
The tour itself was a whirlwind of amazing experiences. Our guide met us near a bustling bus stop and whisked us away to the charming Suginami Animation Museum. Though small, the museum was packed with fascinating exhibits that offered a window into the creative heart of the anime world. But the real magic happened at the Anime Studio. There, I had the incredible opportunity to participate in a workshop led by a REAL animator! We chatted about the craft, and under their expert guidance, I even managed to draw my own anime character. The feeling of accomplishment, fueled by the enthusiasm of a true master, was exhilarating! If you're an anime lover, this tour is a dream come true. I can't recommend it highly enough!
