A seeming completely unorganised shambles of a service. No semblance of urgency or efficiency as queues grow dizzyingly long, with no communication or feedback to patrons on wait times or availability of services. Alilaguna know their service is at a premium, so they feel they can run a subpar operation and leave customers with few other choices.

Alilaguna.... Big scam... everything is well presented to buy the tickets..; LCD screen ... QR Code, very easy to register and pay, but THEN, 2 hours of waiting for a boat that never stops, they are so crowded!!!! total bisness. In the end we had to take a water taxi to get to the airport, again a scam, €50 for two people, no bill, no ticket. A word of advice, take the bus to get to the airport.

Alilaguna is a private service operating in Venice, NOT public as it says on their board. You can buy tickets very easily via QR codes but having done this I would avoid them like the plague. They take your money and then the boats don't arrive, when one does arrive it's too full and you are left waiting. We waited nearly 2 hrs like this and then had to take a private taxi to get our flight. No one tells you anything and when you email for a refund they ignore you. If you do decide to try it, pay via paypal so you can get a refund when it doesn't turn up. Better to get the bus from Piazzale Roma or get a group of you together for a private taxi. If you take the taxi it obviously costs a bit more - for 8 (all 8 and about 12 others were left stranded by Alilaguna) it cost us 25euros each. Not bad for a service which actually shows up and it was quite an exciting ride!

The waiting time . If you are arriving late then the boats are an hour apart so could be better to book a private transfer

Return ticket ripoff. We bought the return ticket for €28 instead of the single for €15. Outward journey no problem. The return there was no boat due to high tide. We had to walk 20 minutes with cases to the bus station and pay again. Alilaguna refused a refund claiming the service was running normally - it wasn't - even though we presented our unused return ticket.
Do not buy a return and consider booking the cheaper bus which is more reliable. Very poor customer service.

Don't bother buying in advance, I paid c10 euro more than if I paid at the ticket offices in the airport. Efficient friendly service but driver/co pilot could call out the name of the next stop earlier (on way back no announcement's at all). Not the most comfortable (small seats lack of leg room for tall guys like me) but there is spaces for suitcases etc. Bonus of course you get to see a lot of the water edge of Venice. Takes 1 hour 10 mins approx. from airport to San macro.

Researched the timetable before leaving UK. Easy to navigate airport to boat transfer t minute walk. 1.5 hours to St Marks where our hotel was situated.
Returned to airport by same method.
No issues at all but in height of summer suspect it would be hot on the boat.

After picking up my luggage I looked for the water taxi Alilaguna signs. There were 2 ticket offices on my way to the pier. I purchased a one-way for 15 Euros and the friendly man instructed me where to go. This is "off season" so there was no line and I waited about 20 minutes to load. The crew helped me with my luggage and instructed me to have a seat below with others. I took the Blue Line and got off at the Arsenale stop closest to my hotel. Very Easy!
I stayed on the Canal before returning home so took the local ferry 2 stops and took Alilaguna to the airport for 15 Euros.
