WHAT TO EXPECT

1. Makrygianni
Our Private tour takes 3-Hours which is roughly split into 80 Minutes at the Acropolis and associated Temples, Theaters and buildings, and 80 Minutes at the Acropolis Museum. MEETING OUR GUIDE. Your guide will be waiting at the 'Acropoli' Metro Station at street level which is located at 7 Makrygianni Street, and close to the Acropolis Museum Our meeting spot provides an ideal perspective from which to view the surrounding wall of the Acropolis built by the earlier Mycenean Civilization and to provide you with an introduction to the History of the Acropolis, its importance and role in the life of ancient Greece, and an overview of the temples & amazing monuments you are about to see. If choosing the 'CITY TOUR LUXURY VEHICLE' option, return transfers are included so we will be at your Hotel or Cruise ship terminal to meet you.
2. Acropolis
TOURING THE ACROPOLIS and PARTHENON. Usually, you will continue first with a visit to the Acropolis lasting approximately 80 minutes during which time you will see all of the Temples, Theaters, and associated buildings such as the monumental gateway (Propylaea), Odeon of Herodes Atticus, the Temple of Athena Nike, Erechtheum, and of course the Parthenon.
3. Theater of Dionysus
Still in a good state of preservation, one of our first stops is the Ancient THEATER OF DIONYSUS. Built in the 4th & 5th century BC in a natural amphitheater o nthe slopes of the Acropolis it would have had an impressive capacity of 25000, it is considered the world's oldest. Amazing to think that many of the most famous Ancient Greek plays would have had their original premieres here!

Ascend towards the monumental gateway (Propylaia) and entrance to the Acropolis. As the Temples of the Acropolis come into view, the Ancient Greeks would have been greeted by an enormous decorated Bronze Statue of the Goddess Athena. As legend has it, the tip of her upheld spear could be seen by incoming ships in the sunlight.
5. Temple of Athena Nike
Built around 420 BC, and one of the earliest temples of the Acropolis, this Classical Ionic Temple was dedicated to the Goddess Athena and is largely restored, with a prominent position overlooking the City.
6. Parthenon
The pinnacle of the 'Golden-Age' of Classical Greece, this temple was an unrivaled mastepiece of Art, Architecture and Engineering as well as the heart of Ancient Greek ceremony and worship in Athens. We Take time at this most important temple with an overview of its construction, mythology and Historical importance.
7. Erechtheion
The second largest temple of the Acropolis, the Erechtheion was Dedicated to both Zeus and the Goddess Athens and your guide will illuminate some of its wonderful Mythology and main aspects such as its impressive statues that you will now see in the Museum.
8. Herod Atticus Odeon
Built in AD 161 by Herodes Atticus in memory of his wife, this stunning Marble amphitheater continues as a working theater to the present day.
9. Acropolis Museum
TOURING THE NEW ACROPOLIS MUSEUM (approximately 80 minutes) A short distance from the Acropolis you will see many of its original masterpieces along with models, videos & interactive installations housed in this state-of-the-art museum. Your guide will illuminate the most impressive & significant pieces along with the stories of myth & legend behind them. The tour's combination of the Acropolis and Museum form a perfect pairing in the understanding of the core of the 'Golden age' of Classical Greece. ENDING YOUR TOUR. Your guide will return you to the meeting point or choose to stay, enjoying the sights of the City!
10. Acropolis
ACROPOLIS ONLY OPTION(2-hrs): If selecting this tour option during booking we recommend selecting a time after lunch for a crowd-free experience as well as enjoying the 'Golden Light' and the best time to view the honey-colored hues of the temple's ancient Architecture and surrounding city views.
11. Athens
CITY TOUR LUXURY VEHICLE OPTION (4-hrs tour by vehicle): If selecting this tour option during booking you will be picked up from your Cruise Ship, Central Athens Hotel, or other Address. This 4-Hour Private Tour includes All of the main Athens Highlights including the following: ACROPOLIS - OLD TOWN & PLAKA - TEMPLE OF ZEUS - HADRIANS ARCH - OLYMPIC STADIUM - ATHENS TRILOGY - SYNTAGMA SQUARE & THE TRADITIONAL EVZONE GUARDS. Took the small group archeological tour to the Acropolis and the Acropolis Museum. We had the best guide - Lydia, who was very knowledgable, answered all our questions and even had books and pictures to help explain the Acropolis and to bring everything to life. Excellent tour, and we learned so much that we would not have otherwise got to know about, and to link the exhibits in the museum with the site. Do this tour if you can!

I do not recommend this trip. We started at 10:30am, and our tickets to the Acropolis were arranged for 1pm. This meant we drove around the traffic jam in Athens for 2.5hrs, only to listen to our tour guide give robotic oral history of Greece from the 20th Century...we came for ancient Greek history.

5-stars for our diver, Alex, however!!!!

I'm sorry, Viatour. This was one of the worst tours we've done with you. Our diver was GREAT. Our tour guide was akin to a robot...non-stop talking, pointing out 20th century "history". We came to Athens for Greek history, not modern history. We started our "tour" at 10;30 am, yet, we couldn't get to the Acropolis until 1pm,

We took the Athens: Acropolis and Acropolis Museum Private Guided Tour through Warmpenguin. Our guide was absolutely incredible. We learned so much about the Acropolis. It was worth paying extra and purchasing the Private Tour. This was a highlight on our vacation to Athens. I highly recommend.

The booking was easy and kept us informed each way of the process. Good suggestion to buy Acropolis Tickets online before arrival to skip the long lines. Vicky was fantastic! She clearly knows her history and loves sharing her culture. Our kids are in university and loved conversing with her on topics they have studied and connecting the dots. We thoroughly enjoyed her tour and her ability to answer all of our questions. Highly recommended!!
