The longest running surf school in Lahaina, Goofy Foot was established on Maui in April, 1994 by the Owner/Instructor Tim Sherer to perpetuate his relationship with Mother Ocean and to teach the ancient Hawaiian sport of surfing. We are dedicated to providing professional surfing lessons to all levels of aspiring students in the spirit of fun and learning. We are committed to facilitating the highest level of experience for our guests with a focus on teaching safety, ocean awareness and surfing fundamentals. Students are guaranteed to standup and ride at least one wave, and even more are given a smart approach to learning to surf that is based on technique and fundamentals that they can use to accelerate learning on their own.

A great experience for our teenage sons. The instructor was fantastic, safety was evident, and they had a great two hours of surfing. I would highly recommend this!

First time in Maui, had to try surfing. We had tons of questions but the staff was very helpful and answered all of our questions. The lesson was great and the surf was amazing. All three boys were able to surf by end of the lesson. Kevin our instructor was easy going and made it really fun. The Lahaina break wall was packed with groups doing surf lessons. We saw some not very happy instructors or surfers so we were so glad we went with Goofy foot.

Our 11 y/o son and 10 y/o daughter had the most radical time with instructor Curran. Excellent staff and very patient and knowledgeable. Wife, younger son and I relaxed and watched from local restaurant as the kids ripped some waves. Highly recommended and thank you for the awesome time. Kids want own boards and get back out there ASAP ???♂️???

Our kids (12 & 14) did a group lesson with Joe, but ended up being the only two on their lesson. Joe was so good with them and I wasn’t worried about them in the water at all. They both got up within their first 4-5 attempts and had a blast. They’re already asking to go again. Definitely recommend!

What an awesome family experience! We did the beginner group lesson with 5 people, two 40+ adults, two young adults and one 13 yr old. All of us had never tried surfing before and not only did we have a great time, but all of us were able to catch a wave. Keith was our instructor and he was professional, knowledgeable, and we all were able to surf, even the nervous mom! Hydrate well before going, the shop has a place to put backpacks, lather on your mineral based sunscreen and be ready to eat after as you will be hungry. Highly recommend for anyone who wants to try!

A fabulous experience. I had surfed before a handful of times but it had been a few years and I wanted the beginner experience. I did 2 lessons, with Curran and Nick, and both were fantastic instructors. The waves were perfect conditions for nice long, mellow to mellow plus rides. The Lahaina breakwall, where the lessons took place, can get crowded so I might recommend doing a 7 AM session.

Our 11 year old had the BEST time taking a surf lesson with Goofy Foot! Keith & Nalani we’re wonderful teachers. Our daughter enjoyed it so much that we went back the next day for another lesson. This time her instructor was Nick and she had another fantastic day! These instructors were very encouraging and positive. They also have some amazing photographers to caught great photos! We HIGHLY recommend Goofy Foot Surf School! We’ll be back on our next trip to Maui!!

Our family of 4 had a blast surfing with the crew. Keith was the perfect person to give us all our 1st surfing lesson. He was incredibly kind and patient. Keith got us all up and surfing (even me, a 40yo with horrible arthritis ?). My kids are already talking about “when we go again with Keith”. 5 stars for sure!

My kids had the best time learning to surf with Goofy Foot Surf School. Their instructor, Austin, was so friendly and kind and he made the whole experience so much fun for our kids. They were both up on waves within the first try.
At one point my daughter got a little seasick and Austin made sure she made it back to shore safely, checked up on her and allowed her to return to finish her lesson when she felt up to it.
If we ever return to Maui, we will definitely go back to Goofy Foot for more surf lessons!
