During the climb on Mt. Fuji, this tour is accompanied by 3 staff members-a Japanese-speaking mountain guide, a National Government Licensed English Guide Interpreter, and a Japanese-speaking tour conductor. Even beginners can participate worry-free.

Spend the night at Mt. Fuji's 7th Station, see the sunrise from the mountaintop, and then recharge after mountain climbing by soaking in a hot spring! The tour will be guided on a popular route.

The Japanese-speaking mountain guide will lead participants on a walk around the caldera at the summit for no additional charge. At the mountain hut, customers will be staying in a room with single size beds for each person (capsule hotel style, dormitory type)

International visitors who do not have their own mountain climbing gear on hand can also participate easily, as gear rental service information will be provided. Rental items can be picked up at Shinjuku or Mt. Fuji 5th Station, and returned at Mt. Fuji 5th Station.

Overall this is a great experience and would highly recommend doing the climb. I thought the tour guides were great and that it was very organized. My only criticism is that the group was too big. I am not sure exactly how many people it was, but it must have been about 45 people, and I think the experience would have been more enjoyable with a smaller group. I would also caution people that the sleeping arrangements are VERY uncomfortable. I would suggest bringing ear plugs and an eye mask if you are a light sleeper we got stuck with people snoring beside us and it made it pretty unbearable.

that was a great time! Thank for everyone who led us and gave us such a great opportunity.

I wish it was less smogy so we could see Fuji from the side, but walking above the clouds and below the stars was amazing. Never breathed an air as tasty as at the top of Fuji!

Best Japan experience. Really good trip and tour. Be prepared though, you will not be sleeping in a 5 star hotel overnight :

Viator contracted the local tour operator. They were incredible...caring folks that explained everything and had all logistics (transpo, trail, hut, food) taken care of. Hike was slow but ensured everyone that could hike did make it. Sunrise made it all worth it. Prepare to spend $5-$6 p/ bottle of water if you don't bring enough. Have gear necessary for 3 kinds of weather (cold, hot, wet)...we hit all three in our trip. Met great folks from around the world...0 complaints. Must do experience....this will thrust you into Japanese culture.

Excellent tour. Our tour guides Yoko and Yuki from JTB - Sunrise Tours were fantastic! Simple, easy and we all had a great time. I would definitely recommend to anyone planning on climbing Mt. Fuji. Yoko spoke very good English and both called and faxed our hotel in the days before the climb to make sure we had all the right equipment and knew when and where we needed to meet the bus. They picked us up at the hotel on time, made all the arrangements, kept the group moving and on schedule, and were very good at informing the group about what was going on and what we needed to do at all times. We had 16 people with two tour guides and a mountain guide (once we reached Fuji), so it was a good ratio of hikers to guides.

The hot springs afterwards were OK. If you have tattoos - like me - you are not allowed in most Japanese public baths. But more importantly, after Fuji you are simply wiped out and just want to go back to the hotel, shower and rest. We had two hours scheduled but everyone was done within an hour. So if you have the option to do the two day climb without the hot springs, I would opt for that.

And of course the climb itself was fantastic. The weather was wonderful and very clear at the top. But don't be fooled, the climb was very arduous (and I hike and run marathons) and the descent was very tough. Don't take the physical part for granted. We saw a number of people really struggling and simply totally unprepared. Bring the equipment they recommend, even if it seems like overkill - it gets windy and cold especially in the hours before dawn.

Have a great trip!

We recently did the 2 day Mt. Fuji sunrise hike with JTB Sunrise Tours (organized by Viator) and were generally happy with services. Heres the pros and cons:

Pros

1) Tour was well organized

2) Tour leader spoke English fluently

3) Tour was worth the cost/fees charged

Cons

1) We took breaks every 20 minutes

2) They insisted that we walk extremely slow

3) They insisted that we walk in a single file line for much of the trail

4) It was not clear in the advertisements that you all need to meet in one hotel (i.e. JTB is not going to pick you up)

Overall, we had a great time. The mountain hut was clean and comfortable and the overall feeling of being at Mt. Fuji was exciting. There are a few things worth noting, which are beyond the control of JTB. First, the mountain was packed. There were literally thousands of people on the trail and at times there were traffic jams where you had to wait 30 seconds between each step. Next, it rained for the last 5 hours of the hike. As such, it was cold and windy and there was no sunrise to see. Fortunately JTB had arranged/reserved a room in the mountain hut where we had soup for 25 minutes before heading down. After descending from the mountain, the tour visits a natural hot springs spa. In Japanese culture, participants partake naked. While we were skeptical at first, we actually found the natural springs to be incredibly relaxing and well worth it.

The tour was perfect, the English speaking guide really knew her stuff. It's very cold at the top, don't forget hats and gloves! The whole experience was fantastic and one which we will never forget. This trip was in the first week of our three week honeymoon, cannot recommend it highly enough!
