Making this 1-day tour will be a unique experience because it has an exquisite beauty, an abundance of biodiversity and amazing Inca constructions. Highly recommended for families and beginners. It is the shortest version among all the trails that reach Machu Picchu. The walk is along the same route of the Inca Trail 2 days and the last part of the Classic Inca Trail 4 days.

The walk begins at km 104 of the Cusco - Machu Picchu railway at an altitude of 2150 meters / 7,053 feet, reaching a maximum of 2,720 meters / 8923 feet at Puerta del Sol, a total of 10.5 km / 6.5 miles away and takes 6 hours at a moderate pace.

We were originally booked to complete the 5 day Inca trail, however due to extremely bad altitude sickness we asked AB Expeditions if they could come up with options that would allow us to complete a short hike and still arrive and visit Machu Picchu. We were very impressed with AB,s ability to come up with a new program that fulfilled our wishes.
Our guide Geo, was fantastic and his knowledge of the trail, its history, wildlife and fauna was outstanding.
Unfortunately whilst we were there the local population and tour operators were taking industrial actions which shut down the rail link into and out of Aquas Calientes, and they also stopped the buses from taking tourists up to Machu Picchu which meant that a large number of tourists were stranded. AB expeditions were great at coming up with an alternate plan to get all AB expeditions' clients out of Aquas Calientes and back to Cusco.
Overall we were very impressed with AB Expeditions as a company and all of their staff were top rate.

We would recommend using AB Expeditions for your trekking needs.

We did the one day trek to Machu Picchu from km 104 on the railway up to the Sun gate and then down into Machu Picchu. It’s a great way to experience part of the Inka trail without having to camp. The trail up from the railway is quite arduous but has a couple of Inka ruins on the way. We arrived at the Sun gate around 1.30pm then into Machu Picchu by 2pm. We then spent a couple of hours visiting the ruins before taking the bus down to Aguas Caliente. Our guide was Jose Antonio who was fantastic and provided useful information all the way through the trek and tour. If we did the trek again we would book an earlier train back to our hotel rather than have dinner in Aquas Caliente which is a bit of a tourist trap. Otherwise it was a perfect day which combines a fantastic trek with a visit to Machu Picchu- which absolutely deserves its reputation.

We did the two days Inca trail with Machu Picchu Andes Tour. Lylia answered our emails right away, answering all our doubts. Our guide Nelson was amazing, his explanations were really good and he helped us during the entire trip. I would recommend a tour with them!
