We will be hiking up Lions Head, Cape Town's most Instragram'able hike. We plan to either catch the sunset over the Atlantic Ocean or sunrise from the Hottentots Holland mountains. We enjoy some amazing photo opportunities before our descent. During a sunset hike, we descend in the dark using our flashlights (provided). During a sunrise hike, we may hike the first part in the dark using our flashlights (provided).
While the hike is regarded as easier than Table Mountain, it still involves steep rocky and narrow terrain at certain points from about half up way and a section where the use of steel handles and chains need to be used to get up 2 pitches of about 3 meters each (only up and not down). Quite adventurous indeed.
This hike has been an age old tradition for locals especially during the full moon and on clear/windless nights/mornings where the lights of the city below dazzle and the moon and stars show off its beauty in the night sky.

Fantastic setting and excellent guide. Kurt was very knowledgeable and informative. A must do in Cape Town, not an easy hike but very manageable

Kurt was the best guide EVER for the Lions head hike. He was attentive to the whole group and made it a breeze to get to the top. He made sure we got plenty of breaks and took great pictures for us. We did the sunset hike and he even brought headlamps for us to use on the way down. Super knowledgeable about the trail and the history of Cape Town. HIGHLY recommend him for this hike.

I did 2 hikes with Capetownlocal : table mountain ( breathtaking rock climbing experience, advanced level though 😉) at sunrise with Miles ( the best limitless guide ) and lions’ head at the sunset with Kurt ( inspirational folk) . I had such great and fun time going up there . Highly recommend and will for sure keep their contact ✨🙌🏼

I enjoyed a great hike with our guide Kurt. The weather was not optimal but Kurt stayed positive and guided us through the rather steep path. He was very attentive and flexible regarding our drop off location. Overall I highly recommend Kurt as your guide.

You just can’t control weather. While it’s forecasted to be sunny, the hike up and down Lion’s Head was misty throughout. Nonetheless, it was a good hike and Kurt was engaging, encouraging and informative throughout. Thanks for the nice day out!

Gloves will be useful for rock climbing especially during your descend.
Best to hike with a local guide for safety reason. Our guide Idrees was very helpful in giving tips for photo spot as well as sharing the history of Cape town .
