We have booked through Viator before and have been very satisfied with the excursions. However, this excursion was a scary disappointment from the beginning. When we booked it through the Viator website, the images and description looked incredible! However, the reality did not match. The first red flag was when the security at our resort would not allow the driver in because they had not announced themselves or contacted the hotel about our reservation. We had to ask the resort staff to drive us to the security gate. Once in the vehicle, which was totally fine, the driver would not stop asking us if we wanted to purchase additional excursions. He kept looking at his cell phone while driving on the highway to show us other possible trips he could take us on. This felt unsafe and also a bit harassing, as we were a captive audience.
Finally, we arrived at the "ranch" by entering through an extremely bumpy and suspicious rubble-filled dirt road. There was no horse paddock and no barn, and the place was filthy and run down. When I asked to use the restroom, I was told there was no electricity and I would have to use the flashlight on my phone. In fact, it was a dark room with a door that didn't lock and there was no toilet seat, toilet paper, or running water.
Random horses were uncomfortably tied to random trees by maybe 12 inches of rope, and because they were tied so closely to one another, they were biting each other vigorously. Unlike the advertisement of visiting a shopping area where we would also get educated about local culture, two men opened dirty jars of store-bought spices for us to sniff while sitting among mangy dogs on dirty benches. There were squealing roosters all around us locked in tiny cages. The horses were also not prepared for us, so we were there for more than half an hour before horses were even brought over. They did not match us with appropriately-sized horses for beginner riders. When I asked for a smaller horse for my youngest child, they literally pulled one out of the bushes and forced it over a broken wooden fence, obviously annoyed at me for even asking. The horse reigns were simply ropes tied around the horses' necks. Before we even ventured toward the beach, I asked to be brought back to our hotel. We had terrible vibes despite trying to go along with this as a new experience. Horses can sense fear, and we were afraid of being bucked off as they kept biting each other and kicking away flies. There was no fly spray, water, or hay anywhere in sight.
All this being said, Sammy, the director, was very, very kind and escorted us back to our hotel. Gabriel at Viator was also exceptional in his apologies and the speed with which he refunded our money.

They said they had smaller horses for kids but didn’t. The saddle felt unsafe for my kiddo because it was way too large and his feet didn’t fit to hold on. My daughter (who has a few years of riding experience) was yelled at when her horse wouldn’t move away from a fence. I’d say it was more yelling in her direction vs. at her. But she left in tears. Her horse also got kicked repeatedly by another horse. The beach is beautiful. They spend a lot of time on the beach with your horse but not riding so they can take and sell you very expensive photos— but the photos were good quality. Nice photographer.

This was a great experience from start to finish. Our designated driver Gabriel was prompt and friendly. He shared lots of Dominican history with us along the way. Upon arrival at the ranch we met with Sammy the tour leader. He was an absolute pleasure. He made us not only feel very comfortable but safe at the same time. Macao beach was extremely beautiful. And I cannot forget Angel, he took beautiful photos of us throughout the tour and provided a slide show at the end where we were able to purchase them. Thank you to these guys for helping to create wonderful memories for my mother and I. Book with them you won't regret it.

We had a great time! It was a very intimate experience- we were picked up in a private car with one other couple. We got to taste chocolate and coffee. When riding the horses we got to gallop and they were very well trained. They took great care of us and it was very personal!

This tour was absolutely amazing, it was my first time in Punta Cana celebrating my birthday. Make sure you inform them and they will decorate your horse. They provide pick up and drop off from your resort. Just make sure you follow their directions when contacted prior to the day of; possibly via WhatsApp application to be able to allow the driver entry to your resort for pickup. If not they wont be able to gain entry due to some resorts security measures for the safety of the guests.
It was my friends first time on the horse and she rode like a pro. They were diligent on explain what and what not to do with the horse. The horses are very well trained & in great condition. My horse was so friendly, I kept rubbing the side of my horse throughout my ride ( I love horses).
There is a photographer that will take photos of you throughout the ride & on the beach so . I have shared a few of our photos.
The ride consist of a quick training session where you ride through the town until you reach & also ride on the beach. They ask your level of expertises so be sure to explain if you have no experience they will stay by you. It was so relaxing, the view was beautiful & we felt very safe being only young women in Punta Cana.
We were all treated very hospitable. I would definitely do the sunset tour next time.

I haven’t been on a horse since I was about 9 so I was a little skeptical but it was an amazing experience. The horses are well trained and the trainer is right in front of you the entire time. It definitely was well worth the money and the pictures were amazing. Hotel pick up was well communicated as well. I was a solo traveler and they definitely made me feel comfortable the entire time.

Horse riding on the beach was an amazing experience. Juan picked me up from the resort and spoke English fluently. Very punctual and great person. He told me how it’s a family owned and ran business. He even set me up for another boat party tour when I told him I was interested in doing that later that day.When we got to the ranch there was a horse and guide ready for me. We rode through the streets and on to the amazing white sands and blue water beach. The horse was very calm and relaxed and then when I was comfortable I was able to get the horse to run up and down the beach which was amazing!
