During this experience you will learn to make sushi of your choice or traditional Obanzai style dishes such as cooked and marinated mushrooms, pickled or slow-cooked seasonal vegetables and tofu dishes prepared the traditional way over an informative conversation with your host Emika in her cozy kitchen. Emika will also teach you to prepare traditional, homemade miso soup from scratch.

The cooking portion of your experience may last about an hour before you enjoy the meal you prepared together.

Emika's family owns an organic vegetable field where she harvests most of the vegetables that she uses in her cooking. Prepare to be amazed by the sheer variety of daikon radishes grown on their farm!

Join Emika and learn all about traditional Japanese cooking techniques, from chopping to marination, from a lovely local!

Emika was a wonderful host to our family. She answered our questions and showed us tips and tricks for the recipes we prepared together. She even answered our non-food related questions about Japanese culture and etiquette. Her communication prior the the session was also great. This was a fabulous addition to our itinerary and it was super useful doing this after a few days in Japan. I would highly recommend this to anyone interested in bringing Japanese cooking into your own kitchen.

(Arigato gosaimasu Emika!)

Emika is a wonderful host who takes care to explain everything during the preparation of the dishes. We also have the chance to work with products from his garden, cucumbers and various herbs… we benefited from a magnificent experience… a big thank you Emika!

This is a "hands on" cooking class! Emika kept us busy preparing a multicourse meal that was top notch. I had tried making sushi in the past, but this was far better than any previous efforts. Emika grows many of the ingredients in her own garden, adding a personal and delicious touch.

This was a brilliant occasion to learn about the Japanese culture concerning mostly the cooking with a local. Our group was composed of 2 middle-aged adults, 1 younger adult and 1 teen and we all enjoyed the activity equally. We prepared our food seated comfortably at the dinner table, equipped with the recipes and a pen if we wanted to take notes. As a professionally trained chef Emika had a lot of helpful advice for us when she guided us through the different stages of the preparation of the different dishes. We had good fun preparing our dinner, Emika was a good teacher and good company. Follow her on Instagram @emikakyoto and enjoy the experience!

This experience was one of the highlights of our family trip to Kyoto. Emika was easy to communicate with and responsive to our questions leading up to the class. The sushi making class itself was relaxed, informative and fun! Emika shared a few tricks and special ingredients I can’t wait to try when we get home. I definitely recommend this class!

Best meal in Tokyo! Emika is a gracious and wonderful person…and an excellent cook! She used fresh vegetables from her garden, explained the process well, had a variety of delicious fresh sushi meats, and provided written English recipes for us to take. She was an overall delightful professional to spend the evening cooking together! Hearing about her family’s culture and traditions local to Kyoto and her beautiful home was an experience I will never forget! Thank you, Emika!

Emika was a joy to do a cooking class with, so kind and gracious. We chose to make gyoza, my niece is a vegetarian and she was able to accommodate on the fly. We also made nigiri, cucumbers, dipping sauce. Honestly it was one of the best dinners we had in Kyoto!
