Hobie Cat Sailing with Miami Watersports

I was a bit leery to rent a hobie cat here as some of the reviews talk about hidden fees and bad service. I had neither! The guys weren't the FRIENDLIEST duo I've run across on my trip, but they got me set-up and on the water in no time. The "instructions" were minimal, but I have some sailing experience, and it came back to me easily.
The boats are in good condition, and reactive to the wind.
I thoroughly enjoyed myself.
I would recommend these guys, but don't expect a lot of friendliness, it's all business.

We hired 2 hobie cats at the Miami Watersports site at Rickenbacker Causeway. The staff were super friendly and the checkout process went very smoothly. The staff helped us to launch the catamarans and were ready and waiting on the beach when we returned to help to beach the boats, which made it all easy. We had a fantastic breeze of 15-20kts from the East which meant we had a blast reaching out to Key Biscayne and back. We even saw a Manatee at one point. The catamarans are in really good condition and were well set up to take advantage of the strong wind. The site at Rickenbacker Causeway is easy to get to with plenty of parking. It's easy to sail from there too with no marina to deal with. There are changing facilities and toilets nearby too. All in all a great experience and I would definitely do this activity again.

Nice bay. Flat. Consistent win. Usual brain dead motor boats. Staff was a little too macho and added 2x to advertised rate.

Great morning sailing a Hobie Getaway with the family and saw Dolphins alongside on way back to the beach to top off a memorable experience!

Annabelle was very helpful over email before our visit and the guys on the beach were great with getting us setup, wish they had a place on Miami Beach too!

We rented a hobie cat and it was really fun!
I would say that it is a bit expensive and that it would be great if they had a seasonal pass to be able to go more often.
However, it is worth it!

I was a little nervous as I was was booking with friends, who had not sailed before. But Anouk was very so welcoming and relaxed. We had a wonderful and relaxing sail. A perfect experience.

Do NOT put your credit card down until you arrive @ the place. Miami Watersports is a HUGE tourist trap!
My husband and I reserved a hobie cat to go sailing with our 2 sons that were on leave from the US marine corps for the weekend. We hadn’t had time all-together in over 7 years! So this was a special event!
We reserved online in hopes that MWS didn’t run out of catamarans.
We got there & the guy told us that there was no wind - so it wouldn’t be good to rent the hobie cat.
We appreciated that the guy didn’t just take our money. He told to go to another location (near the city of Miami) to get a full refund.
We went to the other location. We did the paperwork and were told that we would get the refund in 2-3 days. It has been 2 weeks - & still NO REFUND.
My husband called - the guy @ MWS told him that there were no refunds. My husband told him exactly what happened - all the guy repeated was: “no refunds! Completely disorganized, huge scam, & very pricey!!!
If we knew that we would have received the money back - we would have opted to do something.
Miami Watersports is a HUGE tourist trap!
These people/company are banking on the fact that tourist will leave Miami thinking that they will get a refund - but they just take your money!
I am a local - born & raised in Miami. I cannot believe that these people would act like this towards tourist which Miami desperately needs for it’s economy - especially with COVID-19 on the rise again!
Taking advantage of tourist is disgusting & Miami Water Sports should be outed for this behavior.
No wonder tourist go to the Keys or North Miami.
Please Go some where else!
Key Largo is a good option. I cannot stress this enough!
My sons are back on base & 1 will be deployed soon.
I will continue to communicate with MWS to see if they will honor what they told us that they would do!

Fantastic day sailing Hobie Cats with Miami Watersports. There were 9 of us in our party and they were able to accommodate us with 1x 6 person catamaran and 1x 4 person catamaran. We had a good breeze of about 15kts so the sailing was awesome. Everybody had a great time. It helps if you have some experience sailing but if not you can arrange for an instructor to accompany you and get a sailing lesson at the same time. This is what we did with one of the boats and the instructor was super helpful. The equipment is in good condition and there are free life jackets. Parking is free and there is a public toilet and shower nearby that you can use after sailing. There is a small beach where you can chill out before or after sailing. They also have kayaks and windsurfers at this location (1 Rickenbacker Causeway)
