The history of the Metropolitan Cathedral dates back to 1745 when the construction of the current temple began, which is the fifth church built in this place, in front of the Plaza de Armas. It was finally consecrated in 1775, and a few years later the Italian architect Joaquín Toesca was in charge of the construction of the façade that is seen today. The Cathedral was declared a Historical Monument of Chile on July 6, 1951.

It is worth visiting the upper part of the metropolitan cathedral, it is a tour with excellent views and reveals part of the history of the city in its architecture. I recommend the tour with Brandon, he gives some interesting information and is very friendly.
