A Nile cruise is something everyone should do al least once in his lifetime. The boat is very comfortable and the staff is there for you whenever you need them. The food is very good with a variety of European en Egyptian meals. While relaxing on the boat you can enjoy the landscape that is floating by. The temples are worth visiting. Espacially with a guide whose historical knowledge is impressive and who makes time for all your questions

Our guide was Mac, he was fanatic! He truly cared about everyone in our group and treated us like we were part of his family. Mac would tell us what to do as tourist in Egypt and making sure we were safe and always having fun. The tours that we took to the Egypt Museum were fantastic, in addition to the boat tour and all the excursions he took us too on our journey from Luxor to Aswan and back, as he is a well educated Egyptologist. In general, the Truly Egypt staff cares about you. They want to make sure you have the best time possible. Thanks Mac and everyone else at Truly Egypt tours for everything!

The cruise itself is OK. Floating down the Nile and the cruise staff are the best part. The food is OK, the pool was shallow, sad and uncovered so lots of harsh sunlight.

These cruises are posted on Viator by brokers for local tour companies Your experience depends on who brokers your trip and your own ability to say no and call out scam artists, which Egypt is full of. Our broker was a guy named Mack who would do anything to squeeze an extra penny out of us. His big lie was that we had to give him $70 USD so he could tip the boat crew.

If you want to tip the crew you just put money in an envelope at the reception desk at the end of your cruise and $5 to $10 per person per day is plenty. Mack was obviously not looking to tip the crew, he was going to pocket that money. He told us if we did not give him the money we would be harassed constantly by the crew. We discussed this agreed it was a scam and told him no. As a reference we have taken a much nicer dive liveaboard in Egypt over 7-days with boat crew and dive crew. This was with a reputable Spanish company who only asked for a base tip of $60 total.

Mac came to the boat to harass us. We told him no again. He told us if we were not going to give him the money we should leave at least $10 per person per day with reception (we already knew this). We pointed out that this only totals $40. He then said he also had to tip the drivers. They get about 15-25 Egyptian per day, so that is still not $40 - BUT Mac had already clarified several times that we were to tip the drivers and guides separately - So he was lying, so we called him out.

The Other Big Scam is the daytrip trip to Abu Simbel. Mac wanted $200 for the 2 of us to go. It's a big trip but that's a ridiculous price in Egypt. We shopped around and found a deal for $50 for 2 people to be taken in a private car with a/c and no guide. Anyone associated with an Egyptian tour company, from your hotel to your guide, is 99% likely to be ripping you off already so don't feel obligated to let them gouge you more.
