Definitely one for the food lovers, the Little Italy and North Beach Walking Tour is a glimpse into the blend of culture and cuisine of San Francisco. Stroll amongst the cafes and bakeries of North Beach, San Francisco's own Little Italy.
Named one of the 15 best foodie tours in the USA by U.S. News and World Report (March 2018)
From the cafés and restaurants, to the smell of fresh-baked pastries in the air. Just when you think you can't feel any more romantic, you discover quaint shops with incredible crafts and ceramics that fill you with a sense of awe. We explore the life of North Beach, as we join family artisans kneading love into every pastry or dish. And just when you think that you can't be in any more of food heaven, we visit real coffee shops. And if that was not enough, we uncover authentic Italian cathedrals where hundreds of couples have felt their heartstrings tug.

Loved the history & stories of the various restaurants/bars & shops in the area. Special mention too to the owner of a long standing Italian cafe/shop who took the time & trouble to tell us the background to his family's unique regional recipes.

Tour Guide was Cynthia. Cynthia was great. Very knowledgeable and able to pass on lots of good points during the tour. Clearly she has a fantastic relationship with a number of places visited on the tour.
The tours starts in Chinatown and we wander through a number of streets and alleys to get to different venues. You visit restaurants on the tour but also some great other stops on the way. These include fortune cookie manfacturers, a wok shop, a church, and we also had some nibbles on the street. One of the highlights for me which was the tea shop (bar?), where we tried a number of teas, and were able to experience the wisdom on “Uncle G”. He was hilarious and so full of stories to go with the tea varieties
After visiting China town you move into North Beach/Little Italy. There we visited a fudge maker, and art shop, a theatre, and two Italian restaurants. We also had some local canoli’s which were brilliant. The tour was meant to finish around 6:30 but was a little later because of the great experiences had and the extra time was worth it.
This was great way to have a look at these areas. It gave us some ideas of where to go, and we subsequently returned on 2 other nights to try different options. Really recommend this tour.

Isabella was a fun tour guide, able to flexibly accommodate different dietary restrictions (vegan would have been difficult at these establishments, but vegetarian was handled easily) and deal well with various personalities in the group. She's also able to add a surprise stop if there's time, or stop in at a beautiful church along the way etc; I think she generally did a good job of making our journeys between restaurants/stores/cafes take the right amount of time to keep us from having to wait when we got there. We experienced just one exception to this, which was clearly not her doing and also happened to occur at the nicest, most comfortable restaurant we visited -- nobody seemed to mind. Overall, definitely recommended as a good introduction to Little Italy!
My recommendation is to eat very lightly beforehand, if at all, and plan to have salad for dinner afterward.

Loved the tour
Guide says he is also a comedian .
Would recommend less content about the guide himself and more about the neighborhood but it is probably just a matter of personal style. Still loved the tour and the food was simply great.

Brian is an amazing tour guide- he shared a wealth of information on various interesting topics. I highly recommend asking for him! He added stops according to the interests of the group and there was so much decadent food! The people in the group were fantastic, too. I love old Catholic Churches and Italian renaissance style and he made extra time for those of us that were interested to go inside. I have nothing but gratitude for the wonderful day I had today!
