Our recent visit to the Haunted Underground Shanghai Tunnels Tour beneath the Old Town Pizza and Brewing Co. in Portland left us utterly unimpressed. From start to finish, the experience was a letdown, and we can't help but feel like we wasted both time and money on what turned out to be a lackluster excursion.
Firstly, the "haunted" aspect of the tour was practically nonexistent. Instead of encountering spine-chilling stories or paranormal activities, we found ourselves surrounded by nothing but business stored items cluttering the basement. The so-called "Shanghai Tunnels" seemed to be little more than a storage space for the restaurant above. Disappointingly, the only things haunting this tour were the creaks of the footsteps of the customers above.
The guide's efforts to make something out of nothing were painfully evident. The overenthusiastic attempts to create an atmosphere of mystery and intrigue fell flat as we were led through a maze of pipes and wires overhead. It was as if the guide was desperately trying to compensate for the lack of genuine historical or supernatural content. Instead of authentic tales, we were subjected to a forced narrative that did little to capture the imagination.
The beer tasting, which was supposed to add a unique twist to the tour, felt like an afterthought. The selection was mediocre at best, and the entire experience seemed like an excuse to charge an exorbitant fee for what amounted to a subpar brewery visit.
Save your money and seek out more authentic and engaging experiences elsewhere, as this tour does little more than exploit the intriguing history of the area for financial gain.

It was a fun experience. The beers are a real treat. It is fun to listen to the stories. Although it feels a bit standardized.

Just to be clear there an absolutely NO TUNNELS explored in this tour.

The whole tour takes place in the basement of this pizza place and they have put up walls to make it seem like you are going somewhere underground but you are just walking around the basement. There is no artifacts or anything, just weird old stuff they have put down there for the tour. You are given a battery powered candlelight simulating lantern as the only light source on the tour. So basically you can’t see anything. This is because of the light was brighter you’d be able to see the hot water heater, trash can, circuit breaker, etc. and that would make it even more obvious that you are in the basement of a pizza place.

The scariest part is the eerie “WHOOOOSH” of someone upstairs flushing the toilet. If you inhale enough dust and mold particles you might be able hallucinate and see a ghost.

Overall it was so bad that it made it funny and worth the trip.

It was great from the very start to the very end. Our tour guide Natasha was so fun, friendly, informative, dramatic (in a good way) & upbeat. She kept up intrigued the whole time. The tunnels are fascinating and creepy all in one little bundle- throw in Old Town Pizza & Brewing and you have the perfect way to spend your night in Portland. 5 stars!!!

Our tour guide was amazing! She is a great story teller, personable and funny.
Wear comfortable shoes, ground is uneven at times. We saw an opium den, which the tour guide didn't highlight..... A bedroom setting left behind and finished off with the tastings also in the tunnels!!
Be aware there is a very steep staircase you'll need to use on the 2nd section of the tour.
10/10 recommend!!

Great atmosphere! Natasha was our tour guide and she was fantastic. We had a fun time and it ended with a spooky brewery tasting inside the haunted tunnels! Definitely would recommend. We found a parking lot about a block away, easy parking on a Saturday night.

Doug was a fun tour guide. It was interesting to hear the history of the area and history of Portland. I think it was a good mix of spooky/supernatural stuff and historical info. I went with a group of friends so it was a good time.
Definitely lots of crouching and trying not to hit your head.
I would like have liked to tasted more beers, I think we only tried 2 at the very end of the tour. But having a pint in the restaurant was nice.
