This was one of our favorite activities. Must-have activity if you’re new to the city. Our guide, Aremy was so friendly, attentive and also very knowledgeable! We had so much fun learning about the food culture in Mexico City!

Highly recommend! :)

The tour with Trippers.MX absolutely exceeded our expectation! Ivan and Aremy brought us to three very distinctive markets and answered all our questions with plenty of details. We learned a lot about moles, chilis, corns, tomatoes, cactus, and cheese and got to try delicious tamales, purple corn quesadillas with zucchini flowers and corn fungus, and costilla tacos. They helped us communicate with the vendors when we wanted to buy something, showed us the cleanest bathrooms in the market, and always gave us hand sanitizers, tissues and wet wipes when we needed them. They were some of the most attentive and patient tour guides we’ve met.

We also loved the stories and tips they told us at the witchcraft market, as well as the mezcal and bug tasting at the end. They even surprised us with some cute souvenirs to take home!

Overall this was a really comprehensive, informative, relaxing and fun tour of Mexico City’s local markets. We have travelled extensively in Asia and although this tour is much more expensive than the ones in Asia, the high quality makes it worth every penny.

I’d strongly recommend it to people who are into local culture, cuisine, and history. If you don’t know much Spanish but still want some quality interaction with the locals, this is a great opportunity to meet a local friend. I’d also recommend you to keep your plan after the tour relatively empty/flexible because this tour might overrun (ours ended an hour later at 2pm). They did ask about our schedule and could have ended the tour on time if they had to, but we really appreciate the longer tour and extra value.

What an amazing market tour! We've been to many market tours in the world but Ivan and Aremy took this to a whole new level with their attention to details: hand sanitizer and wet wipes, small spoons so we can taste many things in the market, trash bag to carry our trash, many surprise take-home souvenirs, unlimited mezcal (and bug) tasting etc. You wouldn't go wrong with doing the tour with them

Very good experience! Our guide was Ivan, who was very cool and informative. We visited the Merced market, the Sonora market and the San Juan exotic products market. We travel on buses from the CDMX transportation system.
In La Merced, we tried many things: pot coffee, tamales, miguelitos and tamarinds, fruit juice, huilacoche and pumpkin flower quesadillas, mamey, beef tacos, among others! In the Sonora market we walked through the witchcraft and spells sectors, and in the San Juan market we did a tasting of bugs (worms, crickets and ants) and mezcal! It's a lot of food and you can consume a lot of drinks too if you feel like it!
Highly recommended for those who are interested in Mexican food and flavors. On our tour we were with only English-speaking people, so we did the tour in English - but it can be done in English and Spanish. Bus tickets and tastings are paid for by the tour.

This tour was not very good. We only had 4 in our group. It was very rushed, no time for shopping, the food cuisine choices were not that great. I would not recommend I’m sorry.

Our tour guide did not show up for this tour!!! This is a tour that my husband and I were very excited about doing. There was no communication from Viator or the local tour group that the tour was not happening. Several hour later we finally received a message from the local tour group that there was miscommunication on time - that it was to occur at 10am Mexico City time. That is totally bogus as our Viator paperwork for the tour clearly stated a 9am starting time. While we’re did receive a full refund, this does not make up for the hours wasted trying to contact the local tour group, Viator and our bank to assure we were not charged for the tour. Very disappointed in Viator.

Had a great day exploring local markets with our guide, Ho, on 12/27/2023. Ho was enthusiastic about sharing the culture and food of his country with visitors, We enjoyed a great sampling of Mexican food and experiences and appreciated the feeling of being taken care of throughout the tour. Highly recommend.

Aremy was an excellent guide through the chaotic and sprawling Mercado Merced! She took care to guide us safely through the hustle and bustle of the market, while stopping to taste local ingredients, fruits and foods and explaining everything along the way. She made this experience so much fun when it could have been totally overwhelming! This was our first tour on our 2.5 week Mexico City vacation and was a great introduction to the local foods and culture. She customized the tastings as we went along and was always willing to answer questions or stop to explain something we found interesting in the market. We never would have found our way through Mercado Merced without Aremy! She also took us to Mercado Sonora (which is a unique experience in itself) and Mercado San Juan, which we enjoyed so much we returned there on our own later in our vacation. We highly recommend this experience if you're interested in local food and culture!
