The archaeological site of Muyil is located in the northern part of the Sian Ka'an Biosphere reserve. This ancient Mayan trading post is the perfect place to enjoy astounding Mayan temples such as the 17 meters (57 ft) building known as El Castillo in the incredibly diverse semi-deciduous forest of Sian Ka'an. From the archaeological site you will take an interpretive trail towards the tallest observation point of Sian Ka'an to admire the exuberant vegetation of the jungle and the fresh water wetlands. Once you reach the Muyil lagoon, you will take a boat across two lagoons connected by an artificial canal that has been in use for many centuries. Xlapak is the name of the building at the beginning of the lazy river and the start of an incredible floating experience in crystal clear pluvial water on its way to the Caribbean ocean. You will float for over 30 minutes surrounded by mangroves, orchids, bromeliads. A delicious vegetarian picnic with seasonal fruits is included in the tour.

Very nice excursion with our guide Ursula. Nice guided tour of the Muyil site before the walk in the lagoon. Knowledgeable and friendly guide and the chance to see a baby crocodile.

This tour was a really special experience. The Muyil pyramids they consider a 'small" archeological site however our tour there was about 90 minutes with only one other small group. Paloma, our guide was so well versed in the history of Muyil and the Maya that I came back with a much fuller understanding of the their history and the interlinked cities. The Sian Ka'an is absolutely beuatiful. You feel miles away from nearby development. The water is pristine. There were so many species for birders and naturalists while floating the canals was great fun for every age. Ernesto our driver, kept us organized and our personal items safe during the tour. He was prompt for pick up and drop off. Paloma is such a dear, really laid back and fun, and has clearly found her calling as a tour guide with all the languages she speaks.

An AMAZING tour! Our guide explained everything and made sure the group was well accommodated. We had a person that didn’t feel very comfortable in the water; our guide spoke to the boat guides and they were able to make the necessary changes. Overall a great experience, the floating through the mangroves was exceptional experidece.

I saw this tour advertised on Tripadvisor and having been to larger more well known sights (Tulum, Coba) thought it would be nice to visit somewhere quiter. we also wanted to visit Sian Ka'an reserve. This trip was fantastic, we had a wonderful patient guide leah/laia (originally from Germany who was so helpful and caring, i have slight mobility issues and she was very kind and considerate when offering a hand when needed and setting a good pace that didnt spoil things for the rest of the group. The group itself was small, there were 4 of us and a french family and our guide shifted seamlessly between English and French and it never felt like anyone struggled to ask ask questions or gain information. Following the ruins we got to experince a boat ride which felt completely safe (life jackets provided) and then the tranquil float in the river which was a fantastic experience. I would recommend this trip to anyone and our guide and driver were fantastic.

We had a great day!
Thanks to Léa and Adan for their punctuality and their service. Transportation, meals, snacks, visits, everything was there. Unfortunately we did not have the opportunity to observe the crocodiles, but nature decided that. It was a unique experience in the great outdoors, thank you!
