The visit to this nineteenth century mansion allows you to experience an immersive travel through History, Architecture, Botany and Art, allowing you to truly understand how the burgeois families responsible for the exports of Port Wine used to live. Discover our centennial camellias and the details that came from all over the world to build the House we see today.

Don't forget this is not just a remembrance of older times, but also an ode to the present and the future. Explore the Art Center's anti white-cube concept and how the exhibitions in place are molded by the House and also how they mold the mansion themselves.

Beautiful house and gardens with contemporary art placed so thoughtfully among the spacious tiled and mirrored rooms. Well worth a visit and very few tourists

I liked very much the house and the exposition. You have enough to see and there is a wonderful garden outside and a park, where it’s worth it to spend another hour enjoying the fresh air and elegant surroundings. The exhibition changes about twice a year and usually it’s modern art. To get there from a different part of the city you have to walk 20-30 min from Porto Campanha metro station.

Immersed in the well-kept greenery of São Roque Park, a visit to the House and Center of Contemporary Art is a regenerating experience. The light of the mild April day allowed me to enjoy the details of the eclectic Art Nouveau architecture, the works from the Peter Meeker collection on display and the surrounding garden. The skilful combination of contemporary art and historical architecture is the winning aspect. At the end of the visit, the wine room in the ancient kitchen invites you to stop to drink a wine and consult the selection of volumes on art, Porto and the famous camellias of the park.

The wonderful and diverse ceilings. The winter garden. The contemporary works of art are somewhat debatable... But the building is a marvel!

I personally thought the art was quite minimal and not to my taste, but the house itself is very beautiful, and you could easily spend a few hours in the adjoining garden/park (especially on a sunny day!).
The wine + snacks meant that this was excellent value for money. The staff were also very friendly and helpful.

We stumbled across this stunning building when taking a walk through the beautiful park gardens. We were lucky enough to have the honour of being shown around by Peter whose knowledge and enthusiasm about the building and the collection is next to none! The exhibition has been curated with thought and intention - the buildings ornate and intricate features adjacent to the bold contemporary art make it a real must see!

The house is perfectly renovated, you can see the care in every detail.
Entering the São Roque house is a journey back in time, looking at the ceiling and windows is as if it were possible to feel and understand a little of what it was like to live so many years ago.
The story of this family tells a little about the history of Porto and Portugal, so if you are interested in learning more about the past, you can't miss this visit.
