We went into the London Tour as part of the London Pass. Unfortunately at arrived I discovered that we already visited that one in 2016.
Compared to 2016 surprisingly little has changed. Except maybe the animals. The tiger seemed to chose the spots were it was unable to see anyone or anything (at times tucked between rocks of a nearby wall). Pretty depressing sight to be honest.

We visited some zoos in south Germany and compared with the entrance fees of the London Zoo and the state it was in 2016 and now in May 2024 I really have to ask myself how the money is used - especially as many major sights seem to be funded by sponsors and are very eager to pop up donation boxes every here and there.

It is not even a very large park in comparison to other city zoo of by far smaller cities.

In summary not worth the price tag in my opinion.

My son won a junior keeper experience which we took part in today, my son said: “It was a once in a lifetime opportunity, one of the best days of his life and was a truly amazing day!”

We received such a nice welcome from keeper ‘Rachel’ who took us round and shared some excellent fun facts about the animals and ensured we all stayed safe while having fun, she was a delight to be around as were the other keepers we came across such as the keeper in the Galapagas tortoises and the volunteer Fiona who was also helpful to name a few.

The junior keeper experience comes with a T-shirt, hat, water bottle and more importantly the opportunity to get up close and personal with various animals. We were lucky enough to see the galapagos tortoises, meerkats, spider monkeys and the penguins!!

We really enjoyed this special day and would highly recommend this experience to anyone!!!

Lovely in many ways, saw some fantastic animals. The birds were gorgeous as was the reptiles we saw and the whole experience was generally a good one. On the down side the shop was a disappointment, very expensive and mostly sold cuddly toy animals. The eateries were also very expensive and really over priced for what we got. Staff were friendly...the grounds lovely but beware...put on your trainers as there's loads of walking to do.

We went on a rainy day. Luckily for us, that meant it was really quiet, but a lot of the animals were still out. We were there for about 4 hours.

Pros:
- there's a lot to look at. There's loads of different animals, and there's some beautiful statues and artwork dotted around.
- the penguin enclosure was amazing. It was massive, and allowed them the freedom to come close, or be far away from people if they wanted. They also weren't behind glass that kids could bang on.
- my favourite part for the squirrel monkeys. They basically have their own little forest, and can jump around you freely, and the lady who stays with them and feeds them was lovely.

- some reviews say enclosures are dirty and overgrown. But I didn't see that. A lot of the enclosures were big and tried to mimic their natural environments.

- all of the staff I spoke to seemed passionate about their animals and committed to their wellbeing.

- the shop was big. Loved it! And the man who served us that seemed new, was really friendly and chatty.

- we got lost a couple of times and there was an older gentleman who seemed to magically appear when we looked confused and asked us if we needed help. He was lovely.

Cons:

- I feel uncomfortable seeing big animals in zoos, like lions, tigers and gorillas. However the enclosures were big. The alpha lion didnt like kids screaming though, so parents, please respect the animals and stop your children from shouting and banging on the windows. It's not cute or funny, but it's disrespectful and stressful for the animals.

- most of the enclosures were big, but the one that comes to mind that was too small was the parrots.

- the food was awful. I had a pizza in the restaurant. I had high hopes because it was cooked in front of me, but it was disgusting. It was solid and crispy. They had cupcakes and muffins out in the open so there was some flies about, they were overpriced and not very nice. The muffin was stale.

- all of the 'carts' around the park that sold drinks and ice cream etc were closed, but that was probably because it was raining.

- the indoor bit with the bugs and some fish was hot. And they had this emersive sound system which played buzzing sounds which I hated, because it sounds like there were wasps by your ear which just put me on edge. My partner liked holding a tarantula, but I can't comment as I went nowhere near the spider house 😂

- there's not point in the nighttime animals indoor bit because it's pitch black so you can't see anything.

Would I go again? Absolutely! I had a great day. But I'd take lunch with me and make sure I wear my walking shoes, as I wore vans and my feet were dead by the end.

The zoo is big and we saw lots of animals. It was super busy the day we went. It’s an old zoo. There were lots of food options. The shop had lots of fun souvenirs.

Myself, my mother and my son had a fantastic day at ZSL London Zoo (18th May 2024), however, the service at The Terrace restaurant was terrible. The food came out quickly but the server taking payments at the till was very slow, then we got to the condiments/cutlery section and there was no cutlery at all and we had to wait 10 minutes for some to be brought out. By the time the cutlery came out the food was cold. There was also no napkins and only 2 tills out at peak lunch time. Not good enough for the zoos main source of income.

Wow - obviously the zoo itself was as great as expected BUT what stood out for us were the staff and volunteers! I don't think any one of them could of done any more. They were ALL so kind, thoughtful, engaging and eager to help and assist. No matter who we spoke with - whether seeking directions, locating animals or more detailed info they were fab

We had an enjoyable day at the zoo. It was a treat for my husband's birthday. The animals looked well cared for but quite a lot were in hiding. Disappointed not to see, as in the old days, the aquarium, polar bears, pandas and a few other old favourites. The area where the lions were "living in India" was needing money spent on updating (I know that it's meant to be shabby but it was too shabby!)

We waited about 30 minutes each time for the 274 bus. London Transport need to provide a more frequent service as it's about a mile from the nearest station.
