In this tour you will be able to experience it firsthand at a traditional fado restaurant.

We will start our Fado tour by wandering through the alleys and windy streets on a walking tour through Mouraria and Alfama (1h approx), where you can get to know the working class neighborhoods and streets where Fado was born. Our guide will explain to you the history and the cultural importance of Fado, and how it shaped mentalities in Portugal and the portuguese own sense of identity.

We'll end the tour at a traditional Fado house where we'll listen to the heartfelt melodies of Fado. Lose yourself in the atmosphere and mood of this typical Portuguese music genre played by the Portuguese guitar and characterized by mournful, heartbreaking lyrics. While you enjoy the music, we will also provide you with a typical Portuguese dinner. Homemade food, portuguese wine, and an amazing environment are the keys to any good Portuguese evening.

Good understanding of Portuguese or English is necessary.

Miguel was an excellent guide, providing insights into Portuguese history and the history of Fado while bringing us to viewing spots providing wonderful panoramas of Lisbon by night. The fado in the restaurant was powerful. The meal was fine, and no one would go away hungry! We enjoyed the singing and instrumentals and overall the atmosphere.
We are regular visitors to Lisbon, but learned a lot about the city and its music from Miguel and the tour overall.

Miguel did a great job giving a brief history of Lisbon, the area and Fado music. The show was short but good. The food portions were large and tasty!!

I will never forget the experience. It was raining but Miguel did all he could to keep the integrity of the tour while trying to keep us dry. His knowledge and love for the history of fado shine through in his storytelling abilities. It was never a lecture. His translation gists of the fado songs was an added touch.
Thank You.

The description said it was a walking tour for 1 hour followed by dinner at a local restaurant with Fado Music.

Let’s start with the tour. We walked and stopped at two spots to take pictures as they were on top of the hill and in our last stop finally the tour guide opened his mouth to show us a graffiti wall mural representing the Fado tradition. That’s it! That was the walking tour.

After that we went to the restaurant, which lasted 2 1/2 hours where you had to be quiet and not talk to anyone while they were singing. Food was OK not the best.

Our tour guide left the restaurant in the middle of the meal, never to be seen again even though the description said you would return to the original spot were the tour started in the middle of the city.

This left everyone trying to look at GPS to try and find their way back.

Awful, awful, awful!

We truly enjoyed our evening with our guide Ruth. It turned out that my husband and I were the only ones of the tour. We appreciated that the Devour team and Ruth didn’t rebook us and created a truly magical Fado experience. Ruth was a delight, she was a student of Fado. During our walk in which we explored the Alfama neighborhood with some tasty bites and drinks along the way, Ruth helped us to truly understand the importance and the passion of Fado. The restaurant that we went to had some of the best food of our trip, the cod was cooked to perfection and the braised pork cheeks were tender and delicious. The Fado performers were family members of the restaurant. We were treated to the typical Lisbon Fado with an amazing and entertaining female singer and then, not typical of Lisbon Fado, a male singer.

We would highly recommend this tour for someone interested in Fado and who is comfortable tackling the hilly terrain.

Our guide was great, however, the food was not good. There were four in our party, and we all were disappointed with our meals. The walking part of the tour had many steps and steep hills which we didn't realize. We did enjoy the views and the Fado history. The Fado music was wonderful.
