Explore one of Europe’s foremost museums of modern art at your own pace and see masterpieces from art styles such as Cubism, Surrealism and Abstract Expressionism. Created by the American heiress Peggy Guggenheim, the collection was originally put on for the 1st post-war Venice Biennale. The following year, Peggy acquired the Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, an unfinished 18th century palace on the Grand Canal. The collection was assembled with the help of distinguished artists and critics, such as Marcel Duchamp, Herbert Read, Nellie van Doesburg and Howard Putzel. Explore the museum with our expert guide to find art by Picasso, Ernst, Magritte, Calder and many other avant-garde artists. Take a stroll in the Patsy R. and Raymond D. Nasher Sculpture Garden to see works by Arp, Duchamp-Villon, Fazzini, Giacometti, Holzer, Minguzzi, Mirko, Merz, Moore, Richier, Burri, de Kooning, Dubuffet, Rothko, Oldenburg, Stella, Twombly, Warhol and Kapoor.

Our guide, Beatrice, was excellent. Highly recommend her and Will to friends who will be travelling to Venice. Excellent art historian with lots of information we were not aware of even though we researched Peggy and her life.

Across from Venice, the museum is accessible by bridge. I would advise getting there in the a.m. to beat the tourist jam.

Magnificent exhibition! not to miss !
I was disappointed by the one in Bilbao, I was enchanted by the one in Venice! Diversity of artists, magnificent location, view of the gondolas... I loved it!

Amazing experience. We went into this excursion with middling expectations of walking through an interesting art collection, however, what we were treated to went over and above our expectations. Our wonderful guide spent time providing personal stories and antecdotes about the special pieces of the collection and connecting Peggy and her life with the artists. My daughter commented that this was by far the best guided tour that we had in our travels.

Beatrice gave us a fascinating insight into the lives of the collector and the artists that she supported. Seeing the collection through this lens made the pieces even more interesting. If you plan to visit, take a guide to make the experience more memorable.
