The historic Salt Mine is located about 10 km from Krakow and is on the first UNESCO World Heritage List (1978). The current mine was established ad the turn off 18 and 19 century (though mining history reaches antiquity here). The tourist route goes through the most interesting places in the mine that consists of 22 chambers which are connected by salt pathways of lenght about 3 km. Chambers are located at depth 64 to 135 meters underground.

We visited the salt mines first thing in the morning after taking advice from Greg, our trip organiser. He collected us from our hotel, arranged the tickets and was waiting for us when we had finished. There were a lot of steps down, but you got breaks in between so it was manageable if you are older (like me)! A really enjoyable tour with a guide that explained each of the exhibitions fully. The underground church was amazing! You get a lift back to the surface and there is a lovely cafe and gift shop on site. I would highly recommend using Greg for the trip as his knowledge of the city is brilliant and he made sure that everything went smoothly for us. I wish I would have booked all of my trips with him!

Greg is fantastic, on his advice we took the last trip of the day. Greg even sorted the tickets for us! We were spoilt with a fascinating and intimate tour of the salt mines. There was only 5 of us in the tour party which allowed us to experience the mine to the full. The tour guide herself had faultless knowledge of the mine, it’s history and it’s construction. You will enjoy this trip and the steps!

Greg was so nice. He also knew the fastest routes to the mines and back to avoid traffic. We spoke the whole way about Ireland and vodka. He gave us lots of recommendations for stuff around Krakow. I will be contacting him for sure the next time I'm in Krakow.
